I had a great experience at the academy, my friend invited me to go with him to check it out. I took the jkd class and the muay thai class right after. Both classes wereawesome for different reasons. The jkd was enjoyable because of the beauty that is Bruce Lees art and how the drills were taught and practiced. Also coach Darren was right thereto correct me and improve my strikes. The muay thai was impressive too because of the obvious effectiveness but also what impressed me the most was the discipline everyone had in the classespecially when it came to sparring. I didn't feel any ego or bullying arrogance from any one that was there, to me that is an excellent reflection of the instructors.Unfortunately I live in california but I do visit often so I would definitely like to do a drop in sometime. Will be recommending to all my friends

I've been having difficulty finding the right words to say. This place is just so amazing and holds a special place in my heart. AMAA has top-notch instructors who value all their students' journeys. I've trained at a few other locations, but this is the gym I keep coming back to. When I'm here, I have my mind blown more consistently than I would have thought was possible. If you're coming in for the first time, it's a very welcoming environment. People are friendly and supportive. If you've been training for a while and are interested, we have a competent competition team. Students here have won gold medals plenty of times in BJJ matches and they've won their Muay Thai fights as well. It's plenty of fun showing up to support our team whenever someone is competing, whatever the discipline may be. No matter what your goals are when you're training, you'll have access to an encyclopedia of information that exists within the minds of our instructors. Still, I can't put words on the feeling I get when I step through the doors of AMAA. It's a privilege to be a member of this esteemed establishment that has a long-standing history of excellence. I know what you're thinking: Take me to the dojo.

The Jiu Jitsu program is excellent. Coach max isn’t just empathetic and fair, but determined to teach and offer results. You’ll find not just a professor with all the necessary skills, but a mentor who genuinely cares for you as an individual

I primarily attend the BJJ classes with Max and occasionally a Muay Thai class. The gym is a perfect balance of discipline, respect for the arts, and also fun and approachable.

One of the best jiu-jitsu gyms in New York!Dropped-in as a purple belt, very warm welcome, a good atmosphere with a competitive spirit, which is not too over the top either. Great for beginners as well as experienced grapplers.Top-notch instructions by head professor Max, especially on leg locks! Looking forward to coming back

This gym is amazing. Feels more like family. Everyone there is hard working. The coaches are very helpful and always push us to get better. I’ve been there for about a year and it’s been pretty awesome so far. Can’t wait to see how I progress here at Anderson’s

I started off 2023 with a shoulder muscle tear with a goal in mind of training martial arts to eventually become a professional fighter , I finished off that year training from April to December and ended up as a 2nd place finalist at grappling industries never have trained jujitsu in my life up until then . Anderson’s couldn’t have prepared me enough from the material we learn to the great training partners im surrounded by. Couldn’t have asked for a better gym to train at . Truly a family , Mr.Sifu has created something special for all people to enjoy and that we do .

I tried many jiu jitsu gyms in NYC before finding my home at Anderson's for the past year. The programming, instruction, and coaching is extremely personalized and the community is so welcoming/tight knit. While injured, the BJJ coach Max would even customize classes and strength training so that I could still train safely. Highly recommend doing the free trial!!!

I’ve been a member of Anderson’s for about a year and a half, primarily am involved in the bjj program. Sifu Anderson and Professor Max have created an excellent bjj program and I feel incredibly lucky to train here. If you are looking to join an new gym, but are uneasy about finding the place with the right culture, I highly recommend you come train with us at Anderson’s. By and large everyone in the gym is friendly and welcoming. If you are brand new, you don’t have to worry about someone more advanced going too hard on you. The gym’s population is diverse and welcoming to all. Whether you are a high level athlete looking to compete, a hobbyist, or a complete newbie, you’ll be able to find a home at Anderson’s.
