Don't expect help from the manager or assistant manager when anything goes wrong. Example 1. The freezer broke down. My frozen item was not safe to eat. They wouldn't reimburse me. Ex. 2. The restocking of items often leaves boxes unattended in the aisles. I tripped over a heavy, small box. No one from that store was the slightest bit concerned for my wellbeing. Do they not have accident insurance? They refused to file an incident report. They even claimed not to have paper and pen to document or provide contact information. In fact, all the employees disappeared from around us as we waited for an hour for help that did not come. Disgraceful.

The only thing consistent about this market is the rudeness of its cashiers and its manager. Ok at a couple years ago, one cashier was cordial to me, but it seemed like within days, the rest of them had beat it out of her. They scowl, look bored, don't communicate the total, actually don't community anything. And loathe if you have a question about a price. They actively make you feel BAD for shopping there. The guys who stock veggies and other items are very nice, as are the deli guys for the most part. But the few times I've dealt with the manager, he was scowling, rude, and unhelpful. The last straw was when I found a dead roach attached to a rice cracker in a container I bought at Ozzie's. I brought it to him. He scowled, smashed the cracker, and said "There's nothing wrong with this. That's how the crackers are supposed to look." Last time I'm going to spend my hard-earned funds there. I'm happy spending a bit more at Frank's or going around the corner to Key Foods. Key Foods cashiers sometimes have their rude days too, but they are not as consistently horrible as the women at Ozzie's.

This store is very disrespectful to black people. I came with my family; boyfriend and daughter. I gave the lady $10 at the register and she started panicking checking if the $10 was real…holding it up to the light. Don’t disrespect me at your minimum wage job where you don’t even see $10/hr. We LIVE in this neighborhood and can afford this rent. You only work here, you can’t afford this area so stop disrespecting people who are breaking bread with your business.

Love the variety, if you go to the chicken section they have a pack of chicken breast legs and thighs for such a good price and the chicken is good quality. Buying that has made my meal prepping lifestyle much easier.

The store is very expensive. It is much more expensive than high end markets elsewhere in the city. The meat, fruits and vegetables are good quality, but the cashier’s and other store employees are extremely rude and unprofessional. They don’t respond to any greeting and never say Thank you. Complaining to the manager does nothing, Many of my neighbors mentioned the same thing and like me will only shop there in an emergency. ☹️

Service is AWFUL!!! The store was practically empty at 8 am but he refused a disabled woman with a shopping cart full of food access to the restroom…. Which for many years was public access & unlocked!! DO BETTER!!! What a jerk… I stalked out on entire carts as did others who observed!

The amount of effort that goes into ripping off customers who shop in this store is stunning. One thing you will consistently notice in this store is that many items which are advertised as being on sale for the week mysteriously disappear from the shelves for the duration of the discounted price. You would see this happen regularly for eggs. Large eggs for a particular brand of eggs would be advertised as being on sale but only medium and extra-large eggs would be on display. Those of course would ring up at full price. This begs the question - who was getting our discounted large eggs? Or maybe were they being stored in the basement until the sale was over and they could be sold at full price?Similarly, in the produce department you will regularly see mushrooms of a particular brand offered for an attractive price of say 2 for $4. When you bring the mushrooms to the checkout they are ringing up at a different price. Closer inspection reveals that the actual mushrooms on sale are not on display at all. Some other mushrooms from the same brand are behind the sign and are being sold at full price. This begs the question again - who is getting the mushrooms that the wholesaler is providing at a discount for the week? Are the mushrooms and eggs being diverted somewhere else? Or are they just hiding in the basement until the sale is over? And then there is the meat department. Each week there are huge family value packs of chicken or pork chops being offered for sale. I see almost nobody buying these because nobody can figure out what to do with a dozen chicken legs at one time. You might be wondering how the store can possibly make a profit with so many packages of meat going to waste by the end of the week. Perhaps this is an opportunity for creative accounting? Maybe this store would prefer if we don't buy the meat on display at a discounted price. You might notice that there are two kinds of meat packages on display in the meat department. There is meat packaged by the meat producers and meat that is apparently packaged in the store with inconsistent labels (as if larger retail packages were broken down and the labels were divided between the smaller packages). Given the odd clues about how discounted eggs and mushrooms are being handled, I'm not sure I trust the expiration dates on the in-store packaged meat. Or for that matter, if I am in fact buying fresh meat as opposed to meat that has been frozen and then thawed again in the store. There is a general attitude in this store toward the customers, as if the price gouging isn't enough of an issue by itself. You start to notice after a while that whoever is glued to the numerous security cameras in this store also has access to cuing up this or that song on the sound system to indulge their fantasies of being an obnoxious DJ at a club. Ozzie's is a store where insult is regularly added to injury. Maybe we should all take the hint and shop elsewhere. We quite frankly would have been better off with the Walgreens the landlord intended to replace this supermarket with several years ago. If this store does eventually get swapped out for something else we will be just fine with Frank's Market across the street. I for one, won't miss Ozzie's.

This place has abysmal customer service. The staff are sullen and sometimes outright hostile. Yes, we know these jobs can be hard, as is any where you have to deal with people. But they don't even try. To them, it is clear that the customer is the enemy. The meat department is moronic. Every class of meat is packaged as if for families. As if singles and couples don't exist: you want some pork chops with bone-in? Well your only option is to buy a pak with 6 porkchops. I've asked to speak with a "manager" several times about this and get nowhere. One guy told me to "come back tomorrow morning", instead of opening the damn pak and repacking 2 pork chops for me. Horrible Horrible Horrible!

Ozzie's Fresh Market is a nice little grocery store off of Fort Washington Avenue in Hudson Heights. The place always appears clean, well-organized & well-cared for. Also, the aisles are nice and large, so you don't need to awkwardly navigate around anyone while you're shopping. However, I'm dropping a star because the staff don't always seem that friendly. I've only been here a couple of times (maybe I'm just catching people when they aren't in a great mood), but in looking at the other reviews here, it seems I'm not the only shopper who has gotten the vibe that the staff are bothered by the customers. This, for me, has happened specifically at check-out.This morning (for example), there were two check-out gals who had no customers in their lanes, but neither lane light was on, so I politely waited to be signaled that someone was ready for me. It took way longer than was comfortable for someone to acknowledge me. One of the ladies was playing with her Apple Watch. The other was organizing her station, and despite making eye contact with me, didn't signal me to move forward to check-out (or head over to her colleague's lane to get taken care of). Again, there were no other customers being checked-out, so it felt strange. Otherwise, I do like this place, they have a nice selection of items and I like that store's layout is inviting and that the space is well-kept.

Cashiers tend to be rude and unfriendly. Today, at 9:30, I was looking for a cashier to check my groceries out. The cashier in front of aisle 5 had no people in her line but she was on her phone so I asked her if she was open. She did not look at me nor answer me verbally. Instead, she just kind of signaled with her shoulders that she was. At no moment during the transaction did she offer a greeting or look us in the eye. We offered greetings and she did not respond. She did not help bag our groceries. She said thank you, despondently, when she gave me my receipt but did not even establish eye contact. There are a lot complaints in these reviews about Ozzie's cashiers. It is discouraging that Ozzie's does not seem interested in doing anything about it. We do not ask for much: speak to us, look us in the eye when you speak to us, and say "good morning" back. Is that too much to ask your cashiers to do?

Found the store closed at 8:10PM Saturday night! No sign posting of any emergency or maintenance problem. They're been closing at 10PM the past year yet their own store website says 11PM. How hard is it to let the public know when you are open for business? My main complaint are advertised specials that ring up at the regular price. That, and the promotions are limited to specific flavors or varieties. One needs to cross check the promotion sign with what is available. (My neighborhood has few grocery store choices if you wonder why I bother to shop there.)

The food is priced average and quality is fine, the rating is for the customer service. The cashiers are very rude and make you feel like your and inconvenience to their day. I’ve been coming here for the last year and a half and it’s always the same, they will say “hi” and “have a good day” but I’m not joking when I say they alway sound like they are being sarcastic. There is one or two who might not really be rude but they are also not friendly.
