I've been an Avis customer for decades. It has been my go-to rental service because they always provided good customer service when things didn't go as planned.... and I still say the same thing today, 031124....hope Avis add more Caddy SUVs to Manh locations.

I initially booked through Expedia, and came up to the UWS location to pick up my rental. It's technically on W76th and not on Broadway. The office itself was spotless and clean, and the lady at the counter was very helpful and transparent with all the fees and other additional fees that could incur with the rental. The pick-up/drop off area is all the same - it's a bit cramped, so on a Sunday evening, when everyone's coming back to the city and returning their cars, there can be a little mini traffic jam within the parking garage area and you may have to wait.

But when you show up try to take your careverything has changedfirst of allI never rent a car without insuranceBut I need to pay additional fee to get insurance coveredAnd warning ! The insurance fee charged by every day

The staff members at the 216 west 76th street in New York City branch are nothing but amazing! Every time I go in to pick up / return the car, I am always greeted by their warm welcome, and receive the outstanding customer service and care. Shout out to Ms. Delores Warren, Octavia, Kim at the front desk during check in, Giselle and Theresa when I return the car, and the gentlemen working in the garage. What a wonderful team Avis has!

The personnel at the location were fine, but the car had poor headlights, and windshield wipers that were filthy. It was raining hard and foggy much of our day, and I had to stop 3 times to clean off the window and the wipers. Very stressful.

** Be aware that Avis does not accept international driver licenses, despite what it says on its website. All other rental car companies have accepted it, and we have never had an issue. Had to cancel a family vacation because they would not accept a legitimate international drivers license. I don’t like to leave negative reviews, but it is important that other people know before booking so that they don’t run into the same situation. Don’t make the same mistake we did!**

Take 3: This rental is the gift that keeps on giving. The housing on one of the side mirrors was missing when I picked up the car. The attendant pointed it out and said they had it in the notes so not to worry about it. Guess what I just got in my email (after hours on a Friday so I can’t even deal with it today)? That’s right, a damage report saying that I am responsible for it. At this point all I can do is laugh. I used to like Avis, and they had won me back with their classy response to the gas snafu, but I don’t think I’ll be using them again.Take 2: Great customer service and the car was fine. The system automatically charged me for returning the gas not exactly the same level (see below). The charge fell off or was removed, but no one communicated it. I got 5 email receipts but none of them mentioned the charge being reversed, so there’s definitely communication issues that can be improved.Previous review: I was given a car with the gas tank not filled and then charged me $17.99 for being 1/4 gallon off when I returned (I filled up more than halfway through my trip and had the car for a total of three hours), and didn’t even tell me in person so I could talk to them about it. There’s no way to know an amount that small with a gas gauge. I plan to use less scammy rental car companies in the future.

Appalling. Vehicle not fit for purpose, flashing 'requires maintenance' from the outset, faulty passenger door, tires half-bald and we got a flat. Avis themselves towed it but then accused me of not returning it. Zero internal communication, zero customer service. Impossible to contact them even in a real emergency. Left on hold, on the freeway, in a rainstorm for over an hour. Take the cheaper options peoples. The big names are NOT worth it.

Given all the vehicle with almost 68,000 miles on it. Desperately In need of new brakes. A major Safety issue that needs to be addressed before re-rented.Individual at drop off was irreverent and indifferent. ?
