terrible service, cashier is not friendly, not friendly. The cashier was standing there talking to the cashier and she never even paid attention to me, it felt like I had come to their home. The store is not cozy, the products are scattered, it looks dirty. The basement is too cramped.

We were just visiting New York for the weekend. We were looking for some food to take with us on the train. We found some nice bananas that were reasonably priced at $.89 a pound. And then at the deli we found a beautiful almond, strawberry, blueberry, spinach salad for nine dollars. It was just right for the two of us. The deli worker gave us two little containers of salad dressing. Add in some cookies, yogurt and chips and we were set. The store downstairs had a lot to offer!! It was clean and easy to find the things we wanted. We were glad to find the store!

The prices are outrageous, even for NYC. There are better products for cheaper prices nearby. The selection is limited, and the aisles are overcrowded and small. Save your energy walking to the basement and go somewhere else. Terrible customer service and rude management. Not worth the hassle.

Great prepared food at a reasonable price. The godfather Italian hero is excellent. I like to add lettuce, tomatoes with oil and vinegar. Yum!

Had my ebt card skimmed here at this store. A Hispanic lady checked out my son on 10/15/23 @8:55pm my son noticed something was off when the card wasn't going through properly on the first swipe and she swiped for him. @10:47pm after the store closes they walked to citi bank across the street and took money out. I have reported this incident. I hope the owner finds out what type of low life worker he has hired. Sincerely a single mother and survivor of DV trying to better my life going to school and trying to make ends meet for a better future.

Memorial Day, Sept. 4, I went to the Deli Dept. ('DD") at Big Apple around noon. The first thing I noticed was that the music was extraordinarily loud for a grocery store and was pretty sure there had to be a speaker right next to the DD. Upon arriving at the counter, a tall young man behind the counter came over and asked me what I would like. So, I told him, in a voice which was as loud as I could speak without yelling, that I wanted a ham and Swiss cheese sandwich and pointed to the pre-made ham sandwiches in the glass case. The next thing I knew, he was over at the slicing machine slicing a block of Swiss cheese. So I asked him "what are you doing?" He said, "you wanted Swiss cheese didn't you?" I answered "Yes, but I just want it on my ham sandwich and again, I pointed to the pre-made sandwiches. (There was a shorter clerk right there in front of me, who I am sure can confirm what I said to this fellow who was cutting the Swiss.)The tall fellow then came over to the counter and hands over a package of Swiss wrapped in plastic. (I would like to point out at this time that the clerk never asked me how much Swiss I wanted -- 1/2 lb., a pound, etc., he just cut what he presumed I wanted.) Well, I told him "I never ordered Swiss cheese (by itself), that I had in fact, ordered a ham and Swiss cheese sandwich two times. And that was when the big shouting match started. Then the supervisor of the DD came over and said "nobody yells at my employees." I then told him that if he didn't have that music blasting so loudly maybe his employees could hear me and get my order correctly. And I reiterated this statement a couple of times so that he would get the point.I would also like to point out at this time that I have had a problem with this supervisor in the past. He says "next" to the next customer, who happened to be me, and then instead of taking my order, he goes over to the slicing machine and starts cleaning it off from the previous customer's order. And it is only after that that he comes over to you and is ready to take your order. At that time I said, "are you ready to take my order now?" He got sarcastic and said "well, I have to clean the machine first you know." I didn't argue with him at the time, as I felt I would just be wasting my time. That this guy was never going to change. (I know there was another man that was very angry with this supervisor for what I am sure was the same reason.)Needless to say, we got Into a big shouting match, and I was really surprised that the store manager didn't show up. And this supervisor told me "don't bother coming back." Yes, there was a misunderstanding, however, I am fairly sure this whole thing could have been prevented if they would turn that music off or at the least put it down a whole lot more so that the clerks can hear people. I don't have a loud voice, but I really don't feel that 1) I should have to yell in order to be heard by DD staff because the music is so loud. 2) I think that the clerk I was dealing with needs to pay better attention to what a person is saying to him, and 3) I believe that the supervisor needs an adjustment to the way he takes an order. Why should a customer have to wait while he cleans the slicer before it takes your order? You don't see them doing that in the banks, do you? Personally, I believe it might helpful if the DD was monitored via a video camera, with audio, for a while. But that's just my humble opinion.I always find the rest of the employees in the store to be very helpful whenever I go in there. I usually go at least once a week.

Absolutely great location, but the Hotel room is the smallest I’ve ever had and you feel very uncomfortable inside.

Big Apple Meat Market in New York City is more than just a meat market; it's a one-stop shop for all your culinary needs. From fresh flowers to delectable treats like cakes, chocolates, and ice cream, this place has an impressive range of products. The neatly stacked shelves and perfectly air-conditioned environment create a pleasant shopping experience. The nice piped-in music adds to the ambience, and the well-lit space smells wonderfully fresh. Each time I step foot into the store, I feel so happy! It's like a mini Toys"R"Us for grown-ups! ?

Today, I discovered after 5 years of not returning to this terrible market that they actually expanded from their original site. This place is a food safety hazard. I bought chicken breast from them and made a cooked dish. The chicken tasted like lysol. combined with other reviews that the butcher is full of ****, I believe that. Do not get meat here. I hope the inspector closes this down.

So the prices are now like everywhere else. I guess you can't fault them for that. But i miss the orginal that had great cheap fried fish sandwiches in the deli section to the left when you entered. The meat department was so much cheaper. Everything was cheaper. Glad you still offer a $5.99 sandwich. I miss Stiles next door and the sun that shone in the sky above before a tower took its place.Sometimes friends are the buildings and shops you pass every day and you miss them when they are gone.

Well this is not good. I bought some raw chicken legs on Monday 4/10/23 bc I was craving chicken to cook. I also bought other items. However, got home prepared (2) chicken legs & cooked it. I did smell a faint smell from package but thought nothing of it. The next day got sick w/diarrhea so bad. All I had was the chicken I bought & a salad. I couldn't leave the house Tuesday bc of the diarrhea, so on Wednesday I returned the remaining chicken in its packages. As soon as I began explaining to the manager what occurred he went into defense mood. He never said oh I'm sorry u got sick. He never smelled the package of chicken nothing a real manager w/concern would do. Right away, he told me I put chicken in the bottom of fridge which is very rude and dismissive to a customer who shop there often. So, basically blaming me for his tainted chicken. You would think he would be nerves about selling bad meat and to worry more about being reported to Dept of Health & Agriculture. Then he was combative w/me bc I would not allow him to tell me what occurred in my home as if he was there. I never put meat on the bottom of my fridge. However, he kept saying as soon as you get home you must put it in the Fridge which indicates to me he's aware of them selling tainted me. Good meat is not supposed to turn as soon as you get home WTH is wrong with him. Everyone is aware that they change the dates on meat etc. I use to be a loyal customer, but now will find another place to shop. He was even hesitant about refunding my money. I've never ever spoke to such an uneducated & disrespected manager. It seems like these days anyone can be a manager. I'll guarantee you he didn't go to College to have that position he just worked there a long time and they promoted him. He lack management skills to talk to customers. He need to be replaced. It took him 25 mins to fix a simple problem, and he was rude & combative w/me the whole time. If this place get inspected the boss should know it's because of this manager's poor communication skills. I do hope they get inspection bc I'm sure I'm not the only one who got sick from tainted meat. Any item bottled I guess is ok , but I'd suggest u buy your meat elsewhere if you're smart.

I have been a loyal customer of Big Apple Market for many years, dating back to when it was just a tent-covered food market 20 years ago. While I understand that times have changed and the neighborhood has evolved, I have noticed some changes in the store that I feel are worth mentioning. The basement location of the market has undergone a renovation, and the prices of goods have increased dramatically significantly. A rotissarie chicken used to be $5.99 before they moved from last location, now it's $12.99. While it is no longer a discounted grocery store, it has become more of a regular overpriced supermarket like the Food Emporium, Whole Food or Gristedes.I fully support the store's commitment to hiring minorities and migrants. However, I have noticed that the checkout staff seems to be a bit too laid back. On most occasions, I have had to bag my own groceries if I brought my reusable bag while the tellers were having a ball engaged in casual and long conversation. I understand that this may have been acceptable when the goods was heavily discounted, but now that prices are on par with other supermarkets, I expect a higher level of customer service.
