The vet that I first took my Japanese Spitz Mitsy to.The vet’s personal interactive style is a bit eccentric, but he knows his stuff. Appointments were kept on time, and he always quickly diagnosed and addressed Mitsy’s health issues.

My family has been taking our animals to Dr. G for a very long time, maybe 15 years at least. I’ve really lost track. The bottom line is that Dr. G is incredibly kind to the animals and really knows what he’s doing. He explains every procedure and outlines your options. He won’t recommend treatment if he thinks it won’t work. I really trust his judgment. We’ve had to put to sleep quite a few pets over the many years at Cooper Square Vet, and Dr. G has always shown compassion. He opened the office on New Year’s Eve for me on Dec. 31, 2012 because my elderly cat was dying. He has hugged my mom who was crying after her dog died. He is a real local neighborhood vet and that’s getting harder to find nowadays.

Best vet in NYC! Have brought all my pets to Dr.G and he has always provided amazing veterinary care to each one.

If you want to be disrespected by an arrogant, rude, and condescending vet, then go here. Zero bedside manner, insulting, hateful, miserable man of a vet. Rough with my animal. Zero compassion and 1/100 for bedside manner. Go anywhere else. Run fast. Run far.

The most knowledgeable, to the point vet in NYC. His #1 love is for animals not random emotional people. He has saved the lives of many animals of mine. If you are too sensitive and can’t handle a person who is straight forward you may need a psychiatrist for yourself so you can use Dr. Gagliardi as your vet.

This independently owned vet is wonderful if you're looking for a doctor that loves animals and has a great staff as well. I took my two cats in for rabies vaccines and annual checkups but the vaccine hadn't been delivered to the office yet so Dr. Gagliardi personally scheduled a time to administer the rabies shots to my cats at home so I didn't have to make another trip. I've had a hard time finding smart, dedicated vets in NY so I'm sticking with this one from now on

Great staff and Doctor. Dr.G cares for your pet and doesn’t rip you off. He is very direct and straight to the point. Highly recommend!

I like this vet. 1 star because it is impossible to get in touch with the office, and this makes them unreliable when we are in a tough spot. On two different occasions (6 months ago, and today) I needed to discuss my dogs follow up and his condition. Multiple calls, voicemails, emails and no response.

I can't thank or praise Dr G highly enough. He is an amazing and caring vet who went above and beyond to submit and secure a health certificate from the USDA government vet so I could travel back to Australia with my service dog. Even though it was short notice and after normal hours, everything he did was to make the whole process as easy as it could be and give my dog the best possible care while we were in his surgery. A rare and exceptional veterinarian service. Thank you!

I took my 12 year old cat to Dr G to treat a health issue and was a bit apprehensive bc his reviews said he could be a bit gruff but that he and his staff provided excellent care for their clients. Aside from a crowded waiting room, my visits have been excellent, I've yet to see this rude, abusive side to Dr G, and my cat is in great health. When I asked for a running total of fees my visit was incurring, Dr G complied immediately. I have a busy schedule that constantly changes, and Dr G's office accommodates me. He personally calls to deliver lab results, discuss treatment options and answers all my questions honestly and fully. I can't give Cooper Square Vets a higher recommendation.

Great vet. Actually works through the possibilities and thinks the diagnosis through. Hard to find places that are good with cats, this is one!

After having gone to a different vet practice for a long time, and never being thrilled with them - overcharging, unresponsive vets, unnecessary testing, ever-changing staff - I finally switched to Dr. Gagliardi. I could kick myself for not coming here sooner. The staff is wonderful, caring, and kind. Dr. Gagliardi has been working with my cat's digestive issues without immediately suggesting biopsies; while it's still a work in progress, my cat is doing better than he has in months. The practice is reasonably priced. Did I mention they were kind? If you're a pet owner in the East Village, I strongly recommend Cooper Square Veterinary.

My review was deleted somehow... I see this has happened before to others. So I will try and reiterate my last one. Do not bring your pet(s) to see John Gagliardi. He is unprofessional, rude, and childish. I took my cat here because she was vomiting. He touched her stomach and said it could be allergies, gave us a wet food which she later threw up. He also gave us a tube of gel of some kind for hair balls (which was not the problem) and opened it without telling us if we even wanted it. We tested her for fecal parasites which came back negative. When I came to deliver my cats feces I asked if we could return this tube as we wouldn't be needing it, and the woman at the front desk went back and told him and he raised his voice and said, "it's only $14!" Came to me and uttered the same thing as if I couldn't hear it the first time and then said If I really wanted the money back he would give it to me, and I said yes that I would that I didn't think it was going to help her and it was a waste of money for us. He gave me a stare you wouldn't believe and proceeded to give me my money, all the while this was happening in-front of other patients (!!) He then snatched the bottle on the counter like a child and got me the $14. He spoke over both of us while at the first visit, didn't properly check my cat, said she was a fine weight (later took her to ABC vet, incredible place where they told us that she was 4 lbs over weight and gave her a shot for the vomiting and new dry food and she hasn't vomited since) just across the board the worst vet experience I have ever had. When he sent the negative test for the feces there was not even a call back, or to go over next steps, etc. Or to even ask how my cat was doing. Take your pet to ABC in the East Village or to Dr. Cross in midtown. The only reason we went to this guy was because he was very close to my mothers apt. Not worth it!!!

I’ve been going to Dr G since 2015 and all 4 of my pets go to see him (one cat, 3 dogs). He is very New York City kind of person- kind of gruff, very direct but ultimately extremely kind… the most important thing is of course that he is extremely skilled at taking care of your pet. My puppy had a serious infection and almost died and Dr G saved him. I would highly recommend him to anyone. It’s costly but I don’t think anymore than any other high quality vet. Owning a pet is a huge financial responsibility and when you go to Dr G, you know you are getting the highest value for what you spend.

I have taken many foster animals to several different vets in the city, and Cooper Square is one of my favorites. Dr. G is an excellent doctor and gives great care. My dog has several medical issues and she is not an easy patient, behavior-wise, and all the staff are all wonderful. Because it's a small hospital she is able to have the same doctor and staff each time. I recommend Cooper Square to everyone who asks.
