I was visiting from out of town for a work trip and ended work one day just in time to randomly walk into this store. I'm so glad I did! What an amazing little place with a superb collection of books. I could have spent forever here but they were almost closing. Miwa however did not hesitate to suggest a book based on something I picked out and struck up a conversation with me. She is a gem and so is this shop. Don't hesitate to stop by.

I am quite disappointed. I had heard a lot of good things about it. The selection is really good. On the other hand, it's totally messy, I got tired of it and left.Nothing is organized, the same artist can be found on several different shelves. Many books are still packed, impossible to get an idea of the content. And many (40%?) have no price. So you have to ask the question every two minutes. I preferred to pass by, it's a shame.

Favorite Bookshop. Super nice people here and close to my stores I love in lower East side like The Frankie Shop, Pilgrim New York, Desert Vintage on Orchard, James Veloria on East Broadway, Ritual Vintage on Broome. Books and cool clothes at a discount? What can be better in New York?

Miwa Susuda is an amazing manager. She was so kind to teach me about her store and book editing. It's always a pleasure to see their selection and catch up.

Just had my first and only experience with this business. I ordered something from their website of a photographer that I admire that he advertised on Instagram as a book. I ordered three copies of it because it seemed like a good price ($18 per copy) and well, because I like his work. I also paid $15 for shipping to Canada. What I received is what you can see in the attached pictures. It's literally 5 sheets of paper stapled together in the center and folded over. there is no cover, not protection, nothing to keep it intact.I contacted them and told them that I was unhappy with my purchase. The response was: sorry that you don't like it, you can send it back as long as it's in mint condition, we won't cover your shipping cost. The declared customs value of this was $0.68 per copy, which I think is probably a fair value. I could have done a better job at my home printer with a screenshot of the images and it would have taken me 3 minutes to put together a cover to not make it an amateurish job like this.

Really kind staff in this snug basement spot with a magical array of photography books. Dashwood also curates the bookstore at Gucci Wooster—go to both, it’s fun to see!

What's not to like about a bookstore with a great collection of photography books, friendly personnel and fair prices? Nothing really. David (the owner) and Miwa are knowledgeable about the artists whose books they feature, and are only too happy to offer personalized recommendations. David was formerly at Magnum Photos and brings a wealth of contacts and a thorough understanding of the photo book market. And Miwa is also well-versed in the subject, especially on Japanese photographers of the documentary / Provoke movement. Dashwood is also a book publisher and attracts some high-caliber artists. Photo books are quite expensive but Dashwood is great with stocking up on signed copies of new books that are a bit more affordable if you are a collector and care to follow what is being published. That reminds me, I am due for my next visit.
