Loved my experience here at Downtown Veterinary clinic with Dr. Ficarro. It was our first visit (she came recommended by a friend who has 2 dogs), and it was a follow up after my dog had to go to emergency.Firstly her team were organized. Paperwork I had emailed was organized neatly into a folder ready to go on first visit.Follow calls were made to make sure we knew our visit time.On first meet, Dr. Ficarro was calm, kind and direct to the point. She asked me smart questions, read the follow up notes from the emergency visit, and treated my dog with kindness. Our visit was easy and address the issues at hand. She asked us about my dog’s general health, gave him an overall check up. The whole visit was easy. I left feeling welcomed, heard and at ease.It was a bonus that her all girl team were on top of everything as well. My dog is a fan of a female veterinarian, and I’m so glad I have found a vet who I would trust with my dog’s health.I HIGHLY recommend coming to see Dr. Ficarro at Downtown veterinary clinic. She will treat your dog, and treat you well.

I used to go to Downtown Veterinary Clinic for my sweet puppy dachshund and they were very friendly and professional, but when I requested a Rabies Titer certificate for international travel from them and they misspelled the country of destination... After already charging me north of $400 for the certificate, I pointed out that they made a mistake and they asked them to fix it. They said there was nothing they can do even if it is their fault and that I would have to pay for fixing it as well. As every dog owner in New York knows, taking care of your pet is expensive, and it is even more expensive when your vet makes mistakes and makes you pay for them, after complaining to them and asking to talk with one of the main vets, they brushed me off for more than two weeks and blocked my phone number. Putting aside the rabies titer certificate mistake and my $500 (400 for the initial certificate and 100 for the additional fixing), this type of behavior is disgusting and disrespects their clients. They sure are professional but I'm sure many other vets in the city charge as much as them and will own their mistakes.

I have been taking my dog there since she was a puppy (now 7 years old). I have since moved to another part of town but will always continue to trust my dog’s care with Dr. Ficarra. She is knowledgeable, kind and focused. I know I always get the best care for my dog when I come in, and I will get a fair and reasonable bill. Never any surprise charges, or unnecessary extras. Plus, all of her staff is kind, considerate, and clearly enjoy working with Dr. Ficarra and the patients.

We had an excellent experience. We had never brought our 7-year-old cat to the vet and were a bit nervous. (We have both had less-than-ideal situations with vets with previous pets.) Our cat was developing tooth issues and throwing up quite a bit. Turns out she needed quite a bit of dental work done. Dr. Ficarra was so kind (as was everyone on the staff) and saved us a lot of money. The cat needed anesthesia and several teeth pulled. They kept us updated with her progress and gave detailed instructions along with the doctor's cell phone number when she was discharged. Very happy with the service here and so lucky it's right nearby.

I have tried a few veterinary clinics and this one is by far the best. This is the vet that true New Yorkers use. They are fair and great. They actually care about the animals, and not just about selling you services (which most vets do). This place is genuine and legit. Sadly my kitty just passed away(14yrs). But I’m grateful to the team here for doing their best to help her out.

They're helpful, and have a busy practice, as it seems to me. Have been here even before the pandemic, during the pandemic where you have to follow protocols. Brought 1 pet here to be put to sleep, which was a sad day. Yet the 3 ladies who were in charge of the whole process were sympathetic to me, seemingly. They didn't behave like the pet I brought there was something to be scared of or disgusted about. And I am thankful for that.

Horrible customer service in 2022Two stars only for past experience with former receptionist. When I lived in New York for a bit over a year around 2019 I brought my dog here. She came almost every month for incredily expensive shots I was told were “necessary” for her allergies. (They claimed she had environmental allergies but later found out it was just food allergies and all the money (and time my girl was uncomfortable) I wasted on those shots could have been saved by a simple change in food. She also had a surgery here to remove her hematoma. At that time, the receptionist was so sweet and really seemed to care for the pets that came through the office. She remembered my dogs name since we were there so often. The main vet there who actually treated Joni, dr. Ficcara was polite enough, except for the unnecessary upcharges, but you have to expect that from doctors these days. Today while I’m visiting my family in nyc I stopped in to see if sometime I could bring Joni in to get one of her nails cut. There is now a new receptionist who was extremely rude as soon as I came in. I gave her my name and my dogs name and she said “this dog has never been seen here” over and over without letting me speak. Dr. Ficara was there the whole time, had absolutely no interest in finding out who me or my dog were and completely didn’t recognize us, even after all the time and money spent there. Her receptionist continued to be extremely rude and dr. Ficara condescending. I am a younger woman. I’m really dissappointed because before today I really liked taking my pup to that vet. But without the other receptionist, who provided a welcoming atmosphere, I realized today that this is not a place I would bring my pet ever again. It’s extremely disheartening when a doctor and their employees have no bedside manner. Find somewhere else where they at least pretend to care about your pet.

We’ve been taking our cats to Dr. Ficarra and Downtown Veterinary Clinic for 24 years. Dr. Ficarra really cares about your pets and has always given our cats high quality care. It’s a small clinic and they’re animal lovers.

Dr Ficara has been my veterinarian for close to two decades. Always caring and knowledgeable. The staff is extremely personable, and a love of animals is uppermost in attitude and application of service. I can, with confidence, say that Dr. Ficara would be my veterinarian of choice, even if she did not practice in Chelsea, where I live.
