The most unhelpful owner. I'm not sure why this guy even bothers running the place he seems miserable. The only times he seems willing to help is if he's smoking pot out front, and even then he doesn't know how to smile.

I had a great experience at Garber Hardware when I brought in an old maglite from a relative. Nathaniel, who runs the place, recognized its sentimental value and took the time to fix it. When I tried to pay, he insisted it was on the house. In the rare case they don't have what you're looking for, they're always upfront about it and will even suggest other places to check (even Amazon).

I was sad when our Russian hardware store up the street, closed a few years ago, but we switched to Garber and everyone was nice and helpful, they had a good supply of things, so Garber became our new hardware store. Well, I just came returned from there. One employee was so rude to me - actually went out of his way to be rude - that I will never go back. He seems to be new; at least I haven't seen him before. They are renovating, so maybe it is under new management that doesn't care about hiring staff who have communication skills and follow common courtesies. This is a sad but true business lesson: customers don't like to be put down by surly employees; it doesn't matter how good your products are or how many great experiences the customer has had in the past. I will find a new hardware store where they treat people with civility.

Their customer service skills need a major overhaul and their attitude could use a tuneup

They are the best. They spent time to help me find the correct repair parts. Total purchase was about $2 which saved me from a replacement that would have cost $100

The greatest little hardware store in Chelsea. All the little things you might need in a pinch. They had exactly what I needed and if they don't they call their other store and truly try to help you find what you need.

This is the best neighborhood hardware store you would hope for! I live in an old building where things are constantly in need of fixing and Garber is my first and only stop when things come up. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable to point you to exactly what you need- plumbing, electrical, you name it. They are open early and for a small store they seem to have everything you need for household projects.

Whether you need garden supplies, spray paint, critter traps, keys cut, cleaning products, or some guidance on how to complete a urbanite's home project, this Chelsea neighborhood hardware store has it all. Not to mention a cute dog and treats for yours. Walking through the front door, it always feels like there is a world of possibilities lining the shelves. And when I leave, I always feel like I got answers and am ready to tackle the project at hand. The staff is efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. This hardware store is proof that shopping small doesn't mean limited.

The store owner Nathaniel was super kind, helpful and knowledgeable. I started to buy something (more expensive) that I didn’t need and he actually took the time (even though they were closing) to help me look up/research the size and type I needed. He also make some really cool wall sculptures!
