I was roaming the city looking for thrift stores with unique pieces so I came across this shop. If I could rate it a zero, I would when I came in being the only person of color there I was asked if I can leave my bag at the door when other people out of color had theirs. It is 2024. Let’s leave the way of our ancestors in the past please do better!

While searching for unique pieces throughout the city, I came across this spot. As I entered I didn't even get a hello but was stopped and asked if my bag could be held at the front. I looked around the room and I realized I was the only person of color there on top of being the only one asked to leave their bag. I have never stolen anything in my life, and I have worked very hard to become something of myself as a POC and I will not tolerate this discrimination. Please leave the discriminatory way of your ancestors in the past it is 2024.

I was looking forward to visiting Gentlemen’s Resale as it seems to be the only male-focused luxury consignment shop in NYC. The store has a variety of a selection mostly consisting of jackets and bottoms. There are also dressing rooms and disposable socks provided (the store encourages you to be satisfied before your purchase as there are zero returns). Unfortunately the store seems to lack a few other types of accessory items such as sunglasses, hats, jewelry etc. But that was just my observation. I purchased a Moncler blazer and a pair of Ferragamo shoes (both pictured) that were both sold at a discount. There is a wide range of pricing — pants as cheap at $25 and jackets as expensive as $3,000. Considering the high quality of the store and the purchase I was making, I was truthfully expecting the sales associate present to be more welcoming. He seemed as if he couldn’t he bothered with some of my inquires. Despite that, the store is gorgeous and I’m glad I made the purchases I did. Very satisfied with my visit and definitely will be back!

After not selling my item, they donated it without notifying me.

I’m attaching a picture of my designer Robert Graham leather sport jacket which was one of many garments I’ve brought to the store brand new with their labels attached for sale . After two months I was curious as to why it didn’t sell. Upon going back to receive this jacket and other clothing that reminded new but unsold I immediately noticed a tear in the leather pocket on the outside of the jacket which cost over 1200 with tax. The staff took pictures of the damage and apologized and alerted the owner and I was told I’d receive an answer about how they would resolve this issue. Having already done business there for months with new or nearly new items , this one jacket was the most expensive item givens to the store in good faith. Long story short THEY ARE NOT GOING TO REIMBURSE ME IN ANY WAY OR DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME DUE TO THE DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE JACKET WHILE IN THEIR STORE !!!! I now have to take them to court after going over consignment law and will let the courts decide at their expense . Buyer/seller beware always!!!!

Overall a great store but 2 points of criticism: first the prices are on the high side, which sometimes can be justified, but other time with clothes/shoes with some wear or damage is kinda crazy. Second, I wish they would extend the business hours to like 8pm. After the work day it's hard to get myself over there in time.

This store sold a pair of boots with out my approving. I called/ emailed many times to ask why I hadn’t received notice about pricing for my approval. Everyone had a different story, emails weren’t answered, calls not returned. $600 boots that were sold for $70 dollars. No remorse from staff, owner, etc. unacceptable behavior/ bad business. I highly recommend taking your things elsewhere.

This place is a real hidden gem. You can find some fantastic deals. I got a fabulous Armani wool and leather jacket there for $300 and a camel blazer for $60 that I saw someone on ebay trying to sell for $400. I mostly shop on ebay or at thrift stores, but when I want to treat myself, I go here. They have Tom Ford and Hermes and every other high-end men's fashion brand. It is also a FANTASTIC place for designer suits and blazers. I've taken a handful of friends there to get suits and they were very pleased.

I wish that Gentlemens' Resale remained a secret since its collection of mens' fashion items is superb. i have bought many distinct items over the last five years - brands that are superior in style (Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Gucci) but out of my price range. With a little searching, good timing, a reasonable budget and an open mind, you can make immense style improvements with Gentlemens' resale. Start here before shopping elsewhere.
