How H & R Block has stayed in business since '55 is a mystery! - Customer service, professionalism, accuracy, communication...NO!!!!- Website...non functioning. Help desk...tells me to send my info via email....really?? -Response from accountant at this location to my questions....I am still waiting (it's now May). -Competency: minimal at best. Without going into detail, I was penalized twice, in 2020 & 2022 taxes, by the IRS due to their lack of knowledge regarding deadlines and Estimated taxes. Please reader, do yourself a favor....DO NOT USE H & R BLOCK TO FILE YOUR TAX RETURNS.

Words cannot explain how abysmal the experience was here. But I'll try. It's going to be a long one, as it's been several weeks of unbelievably bad service.I schedule an appointment for an unusual tax issue, that both the IRS help line and the broker told me get help from a tax advisor about. When I show up, the guy I'm assigned to is sitting there eating chocolate bars (multiple) in front of me and saying that he's never seen the issue, telling me that Morgan Stanley did the tax forms wrong, and eventually tells me that he's tired, it's been a long week, and that I should leave the forms and call him back later in the week after he's taken a look at them.So I call back later in the week, and he tells me that he's too busy, and to call back later. At that point, I decide to just try someone else. I set up a virtual appointment online, but a few days before that, I get a call saying that the appointment time is unavailable. Okay, why was I able to sign up for it then? Either way, okay, I'll reschedule over the phone (with a different tax person that I didn't pick), sure.So then that time comes, and when I try joining the appointment virtually, the website only prompts me with the original appointment that apparently wasn't available, because they never actually cancelled that original appointment, and I can't join the new one. I call in, get put on hold, and am then told that they don't understand why, and that it can't be done then anyways, so I'd need to reschedule again. Okay, whatever, this is something that I need to get done, so I'll do that. The third scheduled appointment? Of course, the website still only shows the cancelled one, so I still don't have a prompt to join. I call a few hours ahead of time, concerned about this issue, and am told to wait for the appointment time, and that the tax person will call me to set it up.Of course, I don't get a call. Five minutes after the appointment was supposed to happen, I call in, get put on hold for 15 minutes, and am once again told that they don't know why. Eventually, I end up on the phone with the tax advisor, and keep getting told something that doesn't make sense given the context of the tax issue I had (which is implicitly acknowledged by them later). This info was included with the originally scheduled appointment, and I tried explaining it again over the phone, but she kept not listening to the specific details, and eventually told me that she has to go to another appointment and that I should just upload the forms and wait for a call back in the next couple days after she looks at them (just like the first time). This is long before my half hour appointment time has passed, as we started 20 minutes late due to their scheduling system having issues and their putting me on hold.Naturally, I push back at this point, and she just passes me over to another person, who's clearly impatient and rude, doesn't listen to what I'm trying to explain (as she makes it clear that she also doesn't have context but actively tells me not to explain), keeps interrupting me, and eventually just says that she has another appointment and passes me to someone else, who says some unintelligible words and hangs up before I can say anything. And that brings us to now. It's getting awfully close to tax day, they've been wasting my time and rescheduling appointments for weeks, and now I've once again been told that yet another different person will call me back once they read the forms, once they figure out if they can do anything about the issue.I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt after the first few issues, but it's impossible to ignore. This is genuinely the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a business. I'm not exaggerating here - I truly cannot remember a single experience as bad as this one in my entire life. I implore anyone reading this to avoid this place like the plague. If not, well, good luck - you're go

Horrible tax experience! In six years of doing taxes this is the first time that I have had to owe money to the IRS.... also I was told a specific refund amount and then a month later was told that it was a significantly lower amount due to an error of the tax preparer.I will never work with H&R Block again. highly unrecommended!!!!!!

Horrible experience at H&R block. Original tax preparer told me I owed $5K more than what turned out to be correct. After the appointment, I double checked with my financial institutions to see if they thought that was right even by estimation. They said no way, it was way off. I went back to H&R block, re-compiling all my docs for her to do it again. This time, magically, I owed thousands less. I filled out all necessary paperwork immediately for an amended return. H&R block said if I got it in before April 18 (which I definitely did) then the amended return would be fine and the money would not be withdrawn from my account. Wrong again - the money was withdrawn from my account almost leading to an overdraft, and now I'm told maybe I'll get my money back in 90 days. This place is a disaster. Will never ever use again.

This place is not good. Booked an appointment and arrived, was told the person is 5-10min late. Come back in 10min and I'm told she's actually 1hr late. Wait for 1hr, person arrives and says she has too much work to do and can't do the appointment. Absolute waste of time.

Spoke to two representatives. They barely got back to me so I went elsewhere. I would personally stay clear of this office given the poor service I witnessed here. Also, one of the representatives sent me an email with typos in it and appears as though he may have been drinking when he wrote it. Wow!

The whole experience has been nothing short of terrible. First, I made an initial appointment and I was nowhere to be found on the appointment when I arrived to the branch. Second, I specifically instructed the tax associate I was working with that everything had to filed on a certain date, and I only received an email nearly two months later that nothing was filed because they were awaiting my payment (even though I had offered to pay upfront and was told to hold off and no one communicated anything else to me afterwards for nearly two months). And then, I communicated again to the tax professional I was working with that I need everything to be filed on a new proposed date and I will be coming in to sign in the morning, only to find out that she does not work in the mornings and she did not bother communicating same to me. And now, I don't know if my state returns will be filed on the day that I requested and this experience has been nothing short of terrible.UPDATE: I just received notice from NJ that my account number was entered wrong, so they couldn't process payment for what I owe. Thanks, H&R Block! Just so you know, I have done my own taxes before and have NEVER had this problem when I did them on my own. You are the worst.

Block DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BACK. They were NOT transparent with their pricing, and even though I paid extra for their insurance to ensure that they would be available should there be any issues, the office closed and I had to deal with another woman who wanted me to come in for a consultation and charge me after I already paid close to $1000. After I resolved that issue, I get a letter from NYS taxation that they miscalculated and I owe an additional $125!!! Never ever use these scam artists. They are incompetent and a ripoff.

A terrible experience. It took over 3 months for our tax documents to be prepared, with no response to multiple emails over that time period. When we eventually heard back from Mike, he had sent our documents overseas physically through normal post even though the tax deadline was almost upon us. This forced us to apply for an extension with both federal and state taxes, while H&R Block took no responsibility for any delays and simply ignored emails that we sent requesting updates and more urgency. We wrote to multiple people in the branch to communicate our experience, before and after the deadline, and they didn't even deign to reply. Of course, they did ensure they got their fee before all of this happened. This added a lot of stress to the process and it's still not resolved as of today.
