I didn’t catch the Aussie guy’s name but he was a gem. Super nice guy who shared with me where they source their meats from Upstate, and how passionate the owners are about the quality of their product — to the extent that they drive up themselves to purchase some of the meat they sell in-store.While it may be pricey, their products are worth it if you want the best quality possible. You can 100% taste the difference! Finally, given that costs are through the roof recently, there aren’t too many places like this left in New York. I am so glad this place is still around, and would encourage you to patronize this business. (No I don’t not work for them.)

What is up with the workers here? Puts my husband and I in such foul moods every visit.Australian dude and the owner are polite and friendly. The others are so angry and passive aggressive. Have been supporting H & C for years, but now I don’t think we will go back because it’s just too awkward

I got an almost 20$ sandwich tax included. I was expecting it to be on par with the value other sandwiches at this price point around the city are. It was not, I was told I would have almost half a pound of delicious meat but instead it’s a suggestion of meat in between 2 giant slices of bread. I know inflation is bad but I feel insulted as a customer. The meat was very good though, very upsetting portion.

This is what my New York experience has been missing the past 10 years. You must go in. They’re butchering meats right there in the store, you get quality cuts, at reasonable prices, plus they have the best sandwiches in NYC and you can top off your growlers there. A MUST VISIT.

I bought a lovely steak. The butcher who rang me up was super friendly, helpful and as an added bonus, he was also funny. Glad to have stopped in, and now I know where to go for a fresh cut of something bloody. Thanks guys!

I have never gone to this place and been disappointed. Highly recommend their dry aged steaks - the quality is second to none!

I really love the sandwiches that H&C has on offer and have always found the staff to be very attentive.Their primary function is a butcher shop, so the meats are top quality and they use them in their very creative sandwich menu. I've ordered three of their sandwiches so far (the Classic, the Balboa and the BBQ beef), and they were all excellent. The Balboa (see picture) is basically a Cubano, but made with their own house-made ham and a remoulade, which makes it a bit creamier. If you like hot sandwiches like me, I also recommend the BBQ beef, which is a super flavorful smoked brisket on a brioche bun. I will def be back to try more of the menu.

Disgusting place. Walked by today and they had full sized, dead pigs in a barrel of some sort that they were bringing inside. These were living things. Treating like trash. You are disgusting.

Every cut of meat is excellent and worth the money. There is a noticeable difference in taste texture and quality of the meat available here, most notably the chicken is the absolute best over the highest quality grocery store chicken. I insist that getting your meat here is worth the money. A++

Lovely little butcher shop. I can't speak on the meats because I only ordered sandwiches, but it's clear they take a lot of pride in their work, meats, and the selection of goods they offer in the store.Sandwiches start at 11am for those that are unfamiliar with this place. No substitutions are allowed, which I support because a good sandwich is a good sandwich.

Guy cutting the meat was a jerk. I asked if I could sub out any of the meats on the sandwiches since this was my first time here and I wasn’t sure. Butcher made sure I didn’t feel welcome in the store by his reply of we’re a butcher shop not a sandwich store, you can’t make your own sandwiches. Good enough for, I’ve walked by the place 1000 times, I’ll just keep doing the same thanks to that reply.

I don't buy meat anywhere else in the city. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. Most importantly, they're really into what they do which is reflected in the creative sausages and dried meats.Absolutely fantastic butcher shop. We plan our meals for the week around which cuts look the best. This is a butcher shop that also makes sandwiches. If you're there around early lunch time, I recommend grabbing one. They're really limited so be cool about it.
