The downstairs (taking the escalator) is a very normal looking grocery store. It's not as upscale, organic, and wholesome as Whole Foods. It's just normal market, normal brands but I agree, items are quite pricey. I assume it's because of its location so this place is good mostly when you need to get something in a pinch!

The cashiers are all very polite and pleasant but the store itself is disappointing. The selection is very poor and prices are sky high. I've tried a few of their bakery products as well... all quite bad. Please add more variety.

Absolutely inappropriate staff. At the self check out I paid for a bag, then went to take the bag, the lady who worked there screamed “THESE ARE NOT FOR FREE” and aggressively ripped the bag out of my hands. I was shocked and asked her “why do you say that? How do you know I didn’t pay without even checking my receipt?” She then checked my receipt and said “sorry” in a sarcastic manner. She’s incredibly rude and has given me inappropriate attitude on several occasions. This lady needs to be fired.

This grocery store is the worst in the neighborhood. The final price at the register can be more expensive than on the shelf. When you try to inform the staff about the prices, they are rude and refuse to address the problem. This is not the first time I have had an issue there

this store will leave you with the worst emotions. if you are white, then the employees are trying to assert themselves. apparently no one wants to work for such a low salary that people do not know the culture and respect for other nationalities. very bad cashiers and attitude towards the buyer as if you came to their home

Prices and food at this place are god awful and an absolute SIN! Numerous times I’ve gotten home with packaged food goods just to realize that items were WELL PAST THIER EXPIRATION DATE! In addition to this, you are GUARANTEED to pay on average a minimum of 30% HIGHER on all good than you would at the target 400 feet up 10th ave. The icing on the cake is just how god awful rude the staff and management are rude, can’t be bothered to help, say hi, or even acknowledge you. I’ve lived around the block for 5 years and this has been my experience EVERY time I’ve made the mistake of giving them another chance. I sincerely welcome the day this store closes due to the poor management and price gouging it inflicts on our community. Do better Food Emporium- you’re a disgrace to the Hell’s Kitchen business community.

From the outside, this supermarket has a low profile. However, I'm in love with food and coming from a family of Bodega owners, I decided to take a look inside.Super clean. Well stocked. Average to bargain prices on certain items. What I really like the best is that as a woman of color and transgender, I feel no pressure of racial profiling. I dont feel watched and unwelcomed. The staff is courteous, helpful, polite. Food Emporium is becoming a go to store for everyday items. I'll add photos later. Thanks.

4.5 Stars: One of the best stocked and reasonably priced grocery stores in Hell’s Kitchen/Midtown Manhattan. If you have Amazon Prime, some items (like Belvita breakfast cookies) are substantially less ($5.99 per box in FE vs. $4.19 from AP). Staff are helpful and polite.

Incomprehensible why there are even employees here. They hang about tills and ignore customers asking for help. Broken card reader? Your problem! Go scan your groceries again at a self service after already having bagged them yourself. Ridiculous. This is why stores are heading towards cashier-less.

Worst staff ever. Very belittling and makes you understand why target or any other local super market is so much better. Hands down worst place to shop been coming here for over 3 years and am appalled by the way Mary Ellis and the rest of their staff was disrespectful and made life more difficult rather than assist a regular client. I highly recommend going somewhere else.

If you are in Hell's Kitchen, I highly recommend Food Emporium for your daily groceries. I use to come here frequently when the hotel nearby was the hotel used on business, but has relocated to a different area of Midtown. I use to always look for ready to eat dishes from the Deli Department because it was easy to heat up in a microwave, as well as fresh salads to go for the plane ride home. There are pretty much all your daily essentials at reasonable prices without having to go to a drugstore or convenience store. Ultimately the goal of this visit was to get a protein cookie and a protein shake since I forgot to pack this prior to my trip, there was plenty to choose from and I found what I needed at a decent price. This visit was early on a Sunday morning which was a good time to go because the store was just opening up and it wasn't busy like after work hours on the weekdays. There's a few self-service cash registers and I didn't need assistance when ringing up my items. I'm a believer in shopping at local grocery stores rather than the big box stores. I've seen another location in the Flatiron District, there must be more locations around Manhattan/NYC, but this would be the closest to my hotel. Will be back regularly for necessities, few groceries, and last minute items which I tend to forget on occasion.

Do NOT buy their red meat. First, they put no package date on the meat so you don’t know when they packaged it. I bought over $35 worth of steaks with a sell by date of 3 days from the day I bought it. 2 days before the sell date I went to cook it and the meat was blue and wreaked. They sell raw meat. Health and safety hazard and financial scheme.

I had trouble understanding what the cashier was saying because my native language is Spanish. The cashier was nasty and treated me badly.

Service is excellent. Needed something that I was really craving and the staff made it happen right away and easily. Unfortunately the general manager is a big sleaze ball!!! He looks at women of all ages with lustful eyes, some malice, and he is nowhere close to being a classy gentleman. I am calling him out right here for current, and future or any potential customers, to fully and brutally honestly, know the manager of a local marketplace! Disgusting!!! Upper management should definitely take note, and remedy the behaviors of staff, managers or employees or associates at this establishment.
