Good food, beautiful place. Need a better music system but other than that it’s a wonderful spot.

So I went here for my birthday about a week and a half ago, since from what I could see it was pretty cute and relatively inexpensive. DO NOT COME HERE! Upon arrival, the front staff were very unwelcoming and it seemed as though they either were not expecting us, we were unwelcome, or had no idea where to put us. Our waiter was incredibly rude and disinterested, and it felt as though he would rather be doing anything else than serve us, and my entire party could tell that he was high. The atmosphere was lacking for sure. I want to know who they hired to take the promotional photos for the place, because they should be hired for architectural digest. The place was very dirty and smelled like cleaning supplies and alcohol the way a college bar would. On my reservation, I noted that I wanted to be seated in the grotto, however, upon arrival we are seated in the upstairs portion of the grotto which felt very isolated from the rest of the restaurant. I don't think the downstairs part of the restaurant was even open the night that we went, since besides us, there were only a few more tables on a Saturday night. The website is also unclear as to which areas are which for seating, so you if you really want to go here for aesthetics, I would ask people who have previously been where they were sat and what it was called. As for the food, it was mediocre at best but I guess you get what you pay for. The birthday celebration was 15 dollars, and was cute. Ultimately, I should've read the latest reviews on Google, but I had assumed that based on location and past recommendations that this dining experience would have been up to par with the current NYC food scene.

Dont waste your time or money. Had dinner here with two others. Never one to typically complain or leave bad reviews as I work in the industry myself and understand the weight they can sometimes carry. However the food and the service this place provided for the price was absolutely not worth it & would never go back. The server was barely around and we had to order from a random guy who kept walking by us and at the end of the meal we were charged an automatic 20% gratuity, asked if this was normal and they said it was for dinners that came in during a private event or after midnight and it was 10pm and there was no private event and hardly anyone else in the restaurant. The main owner/general manager wouldn’t even come to the table to answer my question.

The meal itself was fine, but the service was terrible. It took a half hour to even order a drink, let alone food. The waiter seemed bothered I was there, maybe just a bad day? Additionally there's some lights out, peeling paint, obvious water damage...it was overall an okay experience, but certainly not fine dining. I don't think I would go back honestly

Extremely rude and terrible service! We went there to chill for the night! We were waiting for 30 minutes to order two appetizers and a glass of cocktail! After we ordered, the server asked us "That's it" twice. Something is weird; it seemed like they forced us to order more!Everything showed up to us slowly, as more 30 minutes, while there were two groups of people in the restaurant! Finally, we received the bill, which automatically included gratuity for two people at a price of less than $60. (Gratuity equals good service and a party for five on the bill.)We left the restaurant, and no one said anything.I'm not sure how they treat people like this!We won’t come back there anymore.

Went here last night to catch up with some friends. I was very excited because of the good reviews and the beautiful interior.First, the good. the interior was like a beautiful grotto with a cool wall mural where the octopus tentacle cups were done with oyster shells to give off the iridescent gleam. Very cool. And then the bad,Half the restaurant was playing Bad Bunny which didn’t fit the vibes of the other half of the restaurant. It wasn’t a coherent vibe and atmosphere.Service was slow and not very affable. I know you’re not here to be my friend but damn have some tableside manner and smile. The waiter had on casual clothes and I didn’t even realize he worked there. Legitimately could’ve been someone who walked into the door and pretended to be serving staff. I’ve had nicer staff at dollar pizza joints. There was way too much attitude given by the server for a place that I assume was supposed to give off the impression of “upscale dining.” Maybe they don’t care about tableside manners because they automatically included gratuity in the bill. The oysters were good. The entrees came out room temperature. My branzino was barely warm. I will say the branzino tasted great but hard to mess up salt, pepper, capers and lemon juice. My wife had the tuna steak and it was just okay, dry and bland.Overall, I wasn’t blown away for a restaurant that has had such good reviews. I was pretty disappointed. It’s mid.I don’t know if Lamia reads these reviews, but you gotta run a tighter ship cause there’s a bunch of better restaurants doing similar things to you. There is nothing inherently special about a Mediterranean restaurant in New York City and if you can’t bring good quality people and food, your patrons will go elsewhere.

First and foremost, we had a reservation set for 7:00 pm. When we arrived the table wasn’t set and when they did start setting the table half of the cups and utensils were dirty (should have taken pictures). It took them literally an hour to give us a menus and half the tablets were dying. So we ended up sharing. If you don’t have enough tablets to go around invest in books/ paper menus because they work just as well.Secondly our waiter seemed high, emotionally disconnected and came off as if he didn’t want to serve us. Everything we asked him for he’d either forget or just never brought it. For example we asked for a bottle of sparkling water. He said okay then never brought it. After a while we asked him what happened to the bottle of sparkling water. His response was we don’t have anymore bottles. Okay well were you ever going to let us know? Then he spilled some wine on the table and never came back to clean it up just left it there. SMHSince they took so long to bring the menus we decided to just order our main course. It was a group of 9 instead of bringing out the food all at once they brought it out one by one so sadly we were unable to all eat together because the food started getting cold for those who had it.The guy in the hat that gave us the speaker and the staff in the back was way nicer than our waiter. Worst waiter ever. Will not return.

Lamia’s was a real disappointment. I had a 730pm reservation on Valentines Day. A reservation that was supposedly capped at 1 hour and 30 minutes turned into a nearly 3 hour ordeal. There was a limited Valentines Day menu for 85 dollars a person. In the first hour we received a couple of drinks and a couple of apps; small portions but tasted fine. Our entrees eventually arrived, and the food was lukewarm. My steak was overcooked and my partners chicken entree tasted like fish; so much so we legitimately thought we were brought the wrong plate. We waited 2 HOURS from the time we were seated before receiving our dinner. Insult to injury, there was a 20 percent auto gratuity added to the bill. I would like to think the experience would have been better if it had not been a holiday, but perhaps Lamia’s should have been properly staffed, especially if customers are to have no say in the gratuity. I was too exhausted from the experience to ask for the manager and felt like an absolute fool after paying over 250 dollars for such a poor time. Really put a damper on the evening. I do not recommend Lamia’s and I would not go back.

Although Lamia’s is beautiful and my friends and I had previously enjoyed this restaurant, it has gone very downhill over the years. We were cold the entire night due to the lack of heaters and open architecture, but this was the least of our issues with the restaurant. The service was awful— all of our dishes came late (over 40 minutes) and we asked them about our plates but they started ignoring us and avoiding eye contact. One of our orders was not even placed and they didn’t realize it until the rest of the dishes came out. They repeatedly tried to give a person in our party a dish that had caviar, after we specified multiple times that she had an allergy. We also paid an exorbitant amount of money to get small plates and a knife for the cake we brought, which were not delivered to the table at the same time as the cake and only came 10 minutes later after repeatedly asking. After the restaurant said one of our plates would be compensated, it still appeared on our bill (twice). We ended up paying many unnecessary fees and had an overall negative experience. We will not be returning or recommending to anyone after this.

They had a prefixed menu, wasn't mentioned when reservations were made. It looked upscale in the pictures, however not so much. Over all poor experience. Maybe it wasn't a good night. We left w/o ordering anything.

I celebrated my birthday here on 1/21. Originally it was a party of 12 but went down to 6. I requested to sit downstairs (grato) due to the esthetic. By reservation was for 2:30pm but when I arrived I was denied my request and was sat by the back door. It was a cold day so you can imagine the draft that came in. The waiter was great but I felt bad for me in having to be the messenger. The kitchen refused to make our entres because it wasn’t 5 pm, we had to order from the brunch menu. In the beginning we were told we could order what we wanted. Had I known I would have never wasted time ordering all the drinks and appetizers and would have scheduled my reservation for a later time. Not sure if I would give this place a 2nd chance. The meals we had wasn’t worth the $200. Especially since the place was empty when we arrived. Why did I wait so long to leave a review, I just remembered everything I wanted to say.
