I have to laugh -- a “reviewer” named Eva Melin-Gompper below billed herself as “an antique expert” – which means she’s 100 years old; but what she meant to say is that she’s an “antiques” expert. However, if she was, she would realize Olde Good Things are not overpriced at all, as she claims. As a matter of fact, as salvagers you can say some of their pieces are flawed, but their prices are very reasonable. Check 1st Dibs and Charish, or any of the auction houses, to know what “overpriced” really means. Here you get what you get, and since you never know what that might be, the stores are fantastic for the thrill of the hunt, which is what antiquing is all about. Olde Good Things salvages materials from buildings being demolished or refurbished, including hotels, office buildings, etc., as well as creates new items out of reclaimed metals, woods, and other materials. This is a place where many truly unique finds are to be had. They have a spectacular array of lighting and fixtures, if only I had high ceilings. They also carry endless amounts of hardware, including doorknobs, and I bought vintage art deco glass ones here years ago. I bought five pieces of furniture from the two stores in Manhattan to reorganize my apartment during the past two years, and I am thrilled with all of them. They have imperfections and they weren’t cheap, but this isn’t a thrift store; it’s an antiques and salvage dealer. The stores on West 52 Street and upper Broadway are two of my favorite places to hunt, and even though I now have no more room for anything, I’ll still be looking!

i used to shop here all the time for home and work (film sets) until one day when a tall iron stanchion tipped over and knocked me on the head. i got cut and was bleeding and went to warn them that the piece was unsafe. rather than apologize and show any concern they immediately moved the piece away to hide it and accused me of trying to falsely sue them. i always enjoyed discovering items and shopping there but i discovered something else that day, about their character. i haven't been back since.

I can get lost for hours in a store like this. If I'm high, I'll waste half the day. Pack a snack. It's an unpretentious vibe. Pet friendly. Excellent customer service. Knowledge staff that doesn't make you feel like you're an idiot, even though you are. You won't find junk or unearth a 'find' that's undervalued. They are well curated. Unlike, myself.

I have worked professionally with Olde Good Things Antique Store on and off over the past 7 years and have had nothing but pleasant experiences with him. He ran the Light House on Geary before he opened this shop and frankly does a better job on his own. I like the lights that he has in the show room and he also has a nice selection of lighting accessories and bulbs in addition to doing lighting repair work on site. Give him a try!

The store people were friendly, informative and knowledgable. A good place to reminisce of years gone by. A little pricey, but hey, it's NYC.
