This is one of the only true hardware stores remaining in New York City. Locally owned and operated with every tool you need for any household repair or building repair!I’m impressed but also… it’s NYC of course a gem like this exists!

New to the UES and tried S&V twice. The guy at the counter(wearing Knicks jacket) is rude and seems to be bothered when asked for help. First trip I managed to get what I wanted at a reasonable price. So I figured I’d tried them again for a mechanical screwdriver I needed to put some furniture together. After being no help at all, I found a cheap 3 in 1 driver at the counter. This guy rang it up at $57!!!! I went across the street to Rainbow and got a high end Milwaukee driver with multiple tips for $20. I will never walk into s&v again.

Brought in a lamp for rewiring - the guy there is a cheat! He just changed the external wire and left all the old wiring inside the rest of the lamp, reconnected everything together very badly, mangled the lamp and overcharged us on top! So my electrician spent his time trying to get it to work and in addition to paying for his time, I had to replace the dimmer (issues caused by defective wiring in the lamp). Thinking of reporting them to small business bureau. This place is a fraud!Update - just spoke to them. They lied that they told my husband that they weren't going to rewire to the light sockets (he said they never said that) and that they spent 4 hours on "that thing" - takes 5 minutes to disassemble the lamp! Fraudsters and rude on top of that! His comment on the phone - "why didn't you do it yourself"! I should have tried - would have saved $140 in their "services" plus the time I paid the electrician plus the cost of a new dimmer!! Avoid at all cost!!!Pic below is the lamp after their “rewiring” job… shame!

Place to go when you can't find what you need in other stores. Always have the hardware/tools I need for any little job in my apt

A vanishing breed of old time neighborhood hardware stores that used to exist in all five boroughs. If you're looking for the soy latte and avocado toast customer service of Big Box hardware, you won't find it here. What you will find is a real hardware inventory and staff with years of experience to answer all of your hardware questions.

S& V True Value Hardware is one of those wonderful stores that has everything you might possibly need for your apartment. They also have a dedicated team of knowledgeable employees and a designated person who makes keys!

Google Maps shows that store should open at 8 am, but it was still closed at 8:15 on a Thursday. Please adjust the hours here, thanks.

The owner couldn’t be bothered to respond to the email I sent, so posting here to warn others.Today (Feb 25) I was in your store at about 10a and this was my experience.- I stood at the register for at least five minutes with two of your employees looking at me several times from the aisle with no move to assist. I finally said can someone help me and he made me come to him.- I saw that he wasn’t wearing his mask over his nose so I backed up. He said “don’t be scared” and I said I’m scared of people who after a year of a pandemic refuse to wear masks correctly. To which he replied that he’s sick of wearing masks.- I told him everyone is but that people are still dying. And his response was to remove his mask completely.- I left the store when this happened and I will never come back. And I recently bought an apt in the neighborhood and need a lot of work done. But that shouldn’t matter. Your employees need to be better trained.

I sent this by email to the owner after this happened, but since they didn't think anything of it to respond, posting it publicly. Walked in and asked what shelves I could find rope, duct tape, and a few bags of lyme. After a puzzled look by the staff I laughed and asked for some items I needed for a few home repairs I wanted to do. Helpful guy who showed me what I needed. I think he just wanted to get me out of there. Maybe my opening joke didn't go over too well? Decent local hardware store.

If i could give less than one star I would. On every occasion that i have gone into this store they quote prices which are at least double the ACE across the street. In addition they are nasty and dishonorable. The only reason to go to this store is desperation. Try the ACE across the street or to First Ave Supply House a little bit further uptown. I am sorry i didn't learn from past experience and didn't avoid the SV True Value-

I have been going to this store for many years. It's always the best experience with stuff that works there. Very professional and friendly. Also, I always find what I am looking for at the best price in the store. I would definitely recommend everyone to shop here.
