Crystal and Phil are so approachable. They don't try to hurry you up when it comes to conversing or learning the skill. They don't try to shut your questions down either, they actually answer all your questions patiently - no matter how long it takes. They'll take time out to make sure you get all your questions answered.Right now they train at the park, and I would consider the training better than every Muay Thai gym that I've been to in New York city.

I've previously posted my review, but I see that somehow it's no longer visible — I assume management here are abusing the reporting elements of reviews to hide those they don't like, shady stuff. I was at 2/5 but shady moves like that drop them to 1/5. You can see my full old review still on Yelp.In short:- Dreadful pads and mitts. Worse than any gym I've been to, and all other gyms have been much cheaper. Damaged pads with bad velcro and rusty buckles. I even got cut badly by a damaged buckle. At the time I was here, they had almost no boxing mitts at all, embarrassing.- Coaches showing up late all the time, including the coach who would unlock the place in the morning, making us late afterwards. Poor coaching in general: very minimal technique focus.

Literally the best Muay Thai classes I ever attended was with The Wat. Absolutely matches the hype fully. Technique lessons are vast and detailed and you are guaranteed to learn amazing tech work with Ajarn Phil Nurse and his Coaches. I cannot say enough good things about this legendary gym!

I dont know why Ajarn Phil Nurse doesnt let people know. This place is no longer in business! Ever the West Indian hard worker, he now gives classes via Instagram and outdoors in a Brooklyn Park for $15-$20.

Attended a free 45 minute beginner Muay Thai class via IG Live. Our instructor, Phil Nurse, was absolutely amazing and brutal lol the beginner class definitely kick my butt. Phil taught techniques for self defense and provided a full body workout. Each technique was broken down and proved to be a refreshing challenge. Will definitely incorporate what I learned into my exercise regimen. Once COVID numbers decline, I plan to take classes in person to get the full experience. Would highly recommend.

*Virtual Class Review Today I had the pleasure of taking a free 45 minute beginner Muay Thai class taught over Instagram Live with Master Kru Phil Nurse. Nurse broke down several basic moves from Muay Thai in a way that anyone could follow. The Yelp description stated "Kru PHILosophies are unique because they strive to stimulate your body and your mind". I can genuinely say my mind felt clearer after the class and I got a full body workout! Just this one class had me looking into The Wat and their virtual classes. If you get a chance, I absolutely recommend trying out a class! Happy moving Yelpers!

Yo yo, wanna get a good workout? Sharpen those minds. Develop hardcore, rock solid ambition. Be able to handle conflict from within, when walking to the kitchen to choose between a healthy meal or a cheat meal. One on one honest discussion on whether if breakfast is really essential for long training endurance and individidual dietary needs for making fight weight. Learn how striking is best served at the right time. Only room for improvement is that there needs to be more funding for medical advancements available for the sport. P.S O'Doyle Rules

Had some experiences there. When I started martial arts, they never used to pawn off teaching the classes to the kids behind the desk. When the kids behind the desk are leading a class, it's irritating. Here's why: There is no regard for proper technique among the generalized classes. Yes, you're doing pad work, but it amounts to more of a cardio class. I don't like to do sets of push ups in between punches. I want to work on the techniques. So if you're technically minded, serious about learning, imo this stylish environment isn't the place. No one is going to come assist you on execution. Great if you want to burn calories. Or work on endurance training. Or look cool. It's not particularly fun (or clean.) There's nothing here that you couldn't do in a Billy Blanks video. And your technique will suffer for it. An example that stands out to me is a big guy, as big as his ego, let's say. I was holding pads for him and he insisted I was holding them wrong. I think he just isn't aware how to kick the pad properly, and this is a reflection of not being taught. My take.

Next month marks a year that my eight year old daughter Elena has been coming to The Wat. Her technique has gotten so much better, and her confidence has grown tremendously. It's a testament to the skill and dedication of all her coaches. Coach Kevin and Coach Eddie are beyond wonderful!! All the staff and members are friendly and warm people. The atmosphere is amazing and it stems from Ajarn Phil Nurse. #thankyou #grateful #welovethisplace #home #thebestpeople #amazinginstructors #thewatkids
