I was on a job between two hardware stores. The time was 7:30am and I had to pick one or the other. Both stores open at 8am. My hope was that the hardware store I picked would open a few minutes prior to 8am. I got to union square supply and the place looks abandoned. No signage or awning. I waited around for 10 minutes, called the other hardware store. Turns out they've been open since 7:30. Just my luck. Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but I would make the effort to open a few minutes prior to the posted opening time.

They can do ALL THE KEYS and have gardening stufd, household and cleaning supplies, tools and locks. So much better for keys than the stupid machines that don't cut right. This is your new go-to spot.

A real hardware store in a city that sells a lot of junk hardware kits. Proper selection, smart, informed staff. I got plaster anchors and a pilot drill in less than 5 mins for less than 5 bucks. This is now my place whenever in New York City.

As much as I’m against big chain stores, this is the kind of place that should go extinct. It’s very pricey, and when you bought something wrong and want to return it, you can only get store credit.

I used to love this place. I've been shopping here for years. But after today I'm never going back. This 20 something loudmouth j*** kid was yelling profanities across the store making fun of "the new f****** kid" who was working with him. Then he hurled out some misogyny as I was paying "You remind me of my aunts. They get the names of things wrong then I tell them the right thing and they're happy I corrected them." This kid is an a****** and thinks he knows everything. What I want is five minutes of professionalism when I walk into a store. I'm happy to support a small business but I'm never setting foot in this place again.

Worst experience I've had a few days ago trying to get simple bolts for some Ikea furniture. It's like the last thing the staff wants to do is help and the manager Domingo was very rude. Would not recommend.

I have shopped here several times. On more than one occasion, one of the sales associates (a medium-brown, medium-height guy with a latino accent) has been rude for no reason. Whenever I ask a question he answers with a frown on his face, in a tone as if the last thing he wants to do is help. No thanks. I will shop elsewhere from now on.

I have had several keys cut there. I have had to return every single time to get them to re-cut it because it was done wrong. In the past they have never asked for a receipt, they just re-cut it. While I found it very annoying that they can’t seem to cut a key correctly the first time, I am a big supporter of going to my local hardware store so I kept returning to them each time I needed another key cut. Recently they must’ve changed their policy and now you need to have a receipt to get them to re-cut a key that they cut incorrectly. I did not save the receipt because in the past they did not ask for it. After being very rudely told that I may have gotten the key from a different store and then gone to them to get them to fix it which makes no sense at all I left the store. I went home and found the charge on my credit card statement. I called the store to see if I could use that, the person on the phone said no. When I told them that if I could not use my only proof of purchase that I would have to dispute the charge with my credit card company being that they sold me something (a $20 key) that was defective and they were giving me no way to remedy the situation. Before I left, another customer in the store asked me why I returned to them if they kept giving me defective keys. After I walked out I thought about it, the answer is that I really do believe in supporting my neighborhood small businesses, however, I will not do business with a store that treats its patrons this way. Also, no Covid safety, no mask on the rude employee even though a new mandate has been issued by the city.

This is my local hardware store, two blocks from home. They have never, ever let me down. Two recent miraculous events that took place there: First Miraculous Event. The bracket on my hand held shower spray broke in half. I was sure I'd need an entirely new fixture and was unhappy at the prospect of having new holes drilled in the ceramic wall tiles, or worse, having to retile the entire wall. BUT the store had a new bracket in stock. Second Miraculous Event. I walked a total of three miles to two bulb stores in my area to find a weird-shaped little replacement bulb for a table lamp. Both stores had gone out of business. The bulb is shaped like a soap bubble with a base the diameter of a #2 pencil. Not standard. With a heavy heart I went to Union Square Hardware, hoping they could at least tell me the serial number of that bulb. But they had it in stock! That will be a dollar sixty, said the salesman. I thought i might cry.So anyone out there who might need a bulb shaped, say, like a portion of eggplant parmigiana should try Union Square Supply. They are also very nice.

I’ve visited Union Hardware about 4 times in the past couple weeks to make keys for different places and I gotta tell you…these guys are amazing people! Usually I go to a hardware and they are stoic, just in and out the door. Not here, Juan and Cono were very professional with their customer service. They’ve even offered me a network contact who does construction and home extermination! My office is not too far away and I’m glad they are within walking distance. I definitely recommend them and will be visiting again in the future.

Great shop! I've been in half a dozen times in the last couple of months but most recently I needed a specific screw to fit some wall mounted shelves. Domingo had me in and out in under two minutes. Everyone is always friendly and knowledgeable. My go-to in the neighborhood!
