If not for the quality of the baking, I would have walked out due to the surly service. The red haired worker went out of his way to turn us away, refusing to take a pre order for a cake for the next day, insisting we had to return the next day to see what was available. He failed to offer up the fact that we could simply buy the same cake on the spot and take it with us ??!!. Thankfully, someone else was kind enough to offer this simple option. The original guy is costing this bakery business.

Desserts are good, especially B&W and chocolate chip cookies. However, their customer service is the pits. Unfriendly--in fact, the most unfriendly and unpleasant bakery I've ever visited in NYC. Hadn't been there in a while and wanted to get some of my faves. I called ahead to ask if I could bring my dog inside with me just to make a quick purchase (when it was off-peak hours). Orwashers, Levain, and Lady M. all permit dogs inside. I called ahead to Greenberg's bc I wasn't sure of their policy and wanted to be courteous. At first they said no. Then the person said something about ordering ahead for pickup. Then she ended saying it would be fine to come in with my dog to buy a few items. So I walked over there and was promptly and curtly told that I couldn't come in with my dog. Someone pointed to the counter and said I could order there. Then another REALLY rude woman said I had to put my dog outside. I told them I had called ahead and was told it would be okay. The really rude woman walked me toward the door. I said, "Forget about. I'm not tying up my dog outside for this." I stepped out and a few seconds later the really rude woman said I could come in. No way. Done. Went to Levain and got something even better to satisfy my cravings!

NOT what it used to be. We all know many products went down in quality and up in price after covid. This is one of them. Walked into the Madison ave location and a special kid with glasses took my order. He did not know the product very well but someone next to him did and I ended up purchasing (1) lemon and (1) orange pound cake. I was happy until I saw that they are now wrapped in plastic and not very fresh. I tasted it. My wife tasted it. We both agree that it is not the same as before. Very dry -hence the back of the cale depicted in the picture. Very weird tasting cake and even the icing did not taste fresh and stuck to the plastic wrapping. It feels like it was not fresh at all. Tasted old and chemically. All the finesse and moist fresh delicious products they used to have is gone. Never again. What a disappointment for the $14 that I paid.

the black & white mini cookies had no dividers between them. the cookies were all stuck together by the icing. tasty but disappointed. of course they were going to stick w/out some sort of protection like a simple square of wax paper in between each cookie! i don’t think i’d gift them nor order for myself again.

I made an online order from California and there was a mishap with the delivery address. After a few attempts of correcting it someone contacted me to apologize for the mistake and they made sure I received my order at the correct address. It was a gift for someone but I got to try the Black and White cookie and it was delicious! It was my first time trying one but the person I gifted them to is a connoisseur and gave them a 10/10 and will now be ordering from here as well. I will also be ordering for myself as I am a former New Yorker and miss certain baked goods with this authenticity. I appreciate how they handled everything kindly and professionally and am satisfied with both the service and the product.

Staff is really bad. Have you seen that scene in Zootopia with the sloth working at the DMV? That's the guy behind the counter who helped me. You could barely get around inside because there were racks every where. I also placed a $375 order online Dec 15 for overnight delivery. I had to change the address because I'm out of town now. I contacted them on these 22, no response. On the 23rd they said, sorry we forgot your order, We'll ship it the 26th. It's noon and it still hasn't shipped.

Not the Same.Like many once-great NYC institutions, sadly, Greenberg's is just not the same. We ordered a chocolate cake 5 days in advance of a holiday, waited on the day-of for 25 minutes, and were given a cake that was probably baked around 5 days earlier! Stale.

A ripoff like many things around here. Tiny cookie is ok but not worth $2

Desserts are to die for! The mixed berries tart is absolutely delicious and the black and white cookies are a must every time I go…. However this place has a serious issue with service; it is beyond bad. The staff completely ignores you for several minutes until the only person helping walk-ins decides to help with an attitude that screams that being there is the last thing they want to be doing at that point. If they changed the service for good this would be a 5/5.

We stopped by on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and while they were very busy, the young lady behind the counter was very attentative, friendly and personable.(We appreciate that she was waring a mask, too)We love their challah w/raisins, thin almond cookies, blk&wht cookies, & poppy hamantash (best in nyc).If you are in the area, give this place a try!

I saw ALL people leave empty-handed since there is not a price list or even identifying product signage in the location on the UWS. The browbeaten employees explained I could find the prices online. We purchased a Babka and cookies but it was not a pleasant bakery experience. Step over to nearby Levain, they post prices.
