Santa even shops here for our stockings every year, making sure everyone has a new book (he can always find something for everyone in the discount section - even better, the discount stickers are easy to remove and don't leave a mark, so you're just getting a beautiful, giftable book for a great price). They have a good selection of calendars, fancy notebooks, high quality toys, and a beautiful gift room with jewelry, Japanese tea sets, socks for a cause and scarves, puzzles, hand blown glass, figurines, all delightful and good quality.

Their book selection is impressive, especially considering their size, and they are happy to order in books if they don't have what you're looking for. I've only done that once, because I was looking for something specific, older, and kind of obscure. If I'm browsing, I can find something that will meet my needs. The staff are knowledgeable and happy to help, but also happy to let you browse uninterrupted. We're all readers, after all. They have a lot of fun items (magnets, mini books, bookmarks) by their register, and I often wish they had a queue with them displayed, rather than just at the checkout.

Open Door Bookstore also encourages young writers with a writing competition in the local schools each year.

All of Jay Street is a tiny shopping gem, tucked near the market, live theaters, the library, great restaurants, the movie theater, and not far from the college. Definitely worth a visit!”
