“This might have been the most enjoyable post office experience of our entire lives! DeeDee is excellent at customer service and patience. My husband and I needed digital fingerprints and saw this was one of the few in the area that can do it. We showed up without an appointment and they helped us right away. The digital capture machine wouldn’t accept my fingerprintd, kept getting errors and DeeDee pulled out hand lotion and hand sanitizer to see if that helped. She even offered me a bottle of water in case I was dehydrated. A bottle of water?!?! Are you kidding me??? My husband ships packages for work and has literally decades of experience in post offices and for sure they typically barely want to even look at you let alone offer you a bottle of water. lol. DeeDee persisted and we got it done! Highly recommend!”

After preparing it, they double checked all the details and quickly sealed it, making it ready to send. I was truly amazed by how efficiently the whole process was completed.

“My favorite local post office. Usually not too busy, I go here a lot. I like it better than downtown because there is a parking lot and (usually) shorter lines. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is small but it's very convenient for anyone in the Lansingburgh area.”
“I visited this post office recently. It was in the afternoon, the weather was beautiful, and I just had to write this review due to the incredible customer service I received. Sue was extremely helpful, kind and went out of her way to answer my questions and help me understand what I needed to get my packages delivered. Personally I would not be happy if I were stuck inside on such a nice day but she had such a gracious demeanor while going about helping customers that I wanted to leave a review. Hossain who was working with her was also helpful and I am so thankful for their hard work. I am also thankful for the extended hours at this location (open Saturdays late and also on Sundays), which they make possible, and hope they are not taken for granted, and that they get recognized for what they do.”

“Such a difference from when this location was staffed by 2 of the most rudest people ever to wander into the area of customer service. I work near there and when those two women (now retired, thankfully) manned the window, I boycotted the place because of their attitudes. However, the new staff is nothing short of friendly, helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. In fact, they are one of the better post offices in the area now based on the staff. For those wondering where to find it, follow directions on the concourse to the Corning Tower. It’s on the right, before you get to the tower.”

“The United States Post Office in downtown Troy is much more than a place to mail a package or pick up your mail—it’s one of the city’s enduring architectural landmarks. Situated in the heart of the historic district, the building commands attention with its impressive scale, occupying nearly half a city block and serving as a reminder of an era when public buildings were designed to inspire pride as much as they were built to serve a purpose. Constructed during the 1930s in the Classical Revival style, it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains one of Troy’s defining civic buildings.
Walking through the front doors feels like stepping back in time. The high ceilings, elegant stonework, intricate detailing, and spacious lobby reflect the craftsmanship that was commonplace when government buildings were designed to last for generations. It’s refreshing to visit a post office that still possesses so much character instead of feeling like a generic retail storefront. Every visit offers an opportunity to appreciate a piece of Troy’s rich history.
Like many historic post offices across the country, this facility no longer operates at the same scale it did during its heyday. The volume of mail has changed, staffing is leaner, and modern postal operations naturally differ from decades past. Despite those realities, the employees consistently work hard to maintain the level of service customers expect. They remain patient, courteous, and professional even during busy periods, and it’s obvious they’re doing everything they can with the resources available.
I’ve always found the staff to be welcoming and genuinely helpful. Whether I’m mailing packages, purchasing stamps, or asking questions about postal services, they take the time to assist without making customers feel rushed. Maintaining quality customer service in a historic building with today’s operational demands can’t be easy, but they continue to represent the Postal Service well.
I also appreciate that the building remains an active part of downtown Troy rather than simply becoming another preserved landmark. It’s rewarding to see such a beautiful federal building continue serving the community while preserving its historical integrity. The architecture, craftsmanship, and sense of permanence remind visitors of a time when public investment resulted in buildings that became lasting civic treasures.
If you enjoy history, architecture, or simply appreciate beautiful public spaces, this post office is worth taking a moment to look around during your visit. It’s one of those places that quietly tells the story of Troy’s past while continuing to serve its residents every day. The building itself is magnificent, and the dedicated staff help ensure that its legacy continues. Five stars for preserving a remarkable piece of history while continuing to provide dependable service to the community.”
