Sterling opticals literally ripped me off, they charged me free for the eye exam if I took frames with them but they priced the frame 3 times more to make it look like a good deal. Staff was amazing especially Sam I think his name was but they rip you off there.

I have been coming to this location for many years. Even with the previous owner of this location. And I have never been more frustrated, disappointed, disgusted. It totally felt like I was on a used car lot being bamboozled by a salesmen that was trying to make commission for the month. No matter what insurance you have what they try to give you is NEVER COVERED. My insurance keeps increasing my benefits and the store keeps decreasing what is available. Yes everything is getting expensive in the world so price hikes are inevitable. But being taken advantage of is never ok. If you chose to shop there please verify and have a complete understanding of what your insurance covers and please get an items bill. I literally went to lens crafters didn't use any insurance and received 2 pairs of glasses for the price they tried to charge me for 1 with full insurance. I'm done!!

This is the first review I’ve written in a very long time. The ophthalmologist and office staff were pleasant and knowledgeable. The staff was attentive and caring making it a very client centered experience for me not to mention the large selection of frames. Definitely recommend!

My first and only time here it was a nightmare. I schedule an appointment for 4:45 and didn’t get taken care of till 30 minutes later because they allowed walk ins to go before me even though I scheduled. The older lady was much more helpful then the young one. The young girl felt like she was rushing me and never took the time to even explain if my insurance was cover or not. (It was not) but she didn’t mention it until after the test. Very bad experience I will not be back.

Great service. This store is located in a great location. The evening representative was very nice and friendly. Though I forgot to ask her name, she described me all the available coating options with patience. Great vibe.

I had a wonderful experience at Sterling Optical in Yonkers. Patti Balfe was very personable and knowledgeable. She made it easy to choose the best frame for my face. Such a professional. The outcome: my perfect glasses.

Husband & I called in to make an appointment for eye exam and glasses. The location is clean and organized, the two associates Patti & Sam were friendly and greeted us at the door. Even though they were busy the wait wasn't long. After each of us got an exam we began shopping for frames, and there was a good amount of variety for us to find something that fit. Sam was super helpful with his knowledge of frames and styles, and even though my first pick didn't the make the cut, I'm happy with the final result! Patti was so nice and friendly and was able to walk us through what our insurance did and did not cover. They also repaired my glasses and replaced the feet/nose pads on our glasses! Overall im super content with our visit and I am looking forward to our new frames! Shout out to Patti and Sam for their excellent customer service!!

After having a not so good experience with the Costco optician a couple of years ago, my wife and I decided we would try somewhere different which was in network for our insurance. In theory at least the insurance should have covered the exam plus a basic pair with small copays for some options. The reviews seemed OK for Sterling Optical so we thought why not?We went in and had our exam first. The exam was pretty quick but it was fine. I knew my prescription had changed a little and it seems so far like the optician captured in correctly. Then came the glasses discussion with the sales person. That wasn't so positive an experience. With help from the salesperson I picked out an OK frame and gave my requirements to the salesperson (progressives, transitions). The quote came out at > $800 and that was AFTER all insurance subsidies. Another $500 to get my current pair re-lensed.Then we had the hard sell. I would have hoped we would have had a discussion of different lens options and the cost-benefits. Instead it felt like a negotiation with a used car salesperson. To get us to buy he tried to appeal to our pride ("don't you want THE BEST technology!!!") then appealed to our vanity ("Costco have last years frames!")...which we couldn't have cared less about. All this was done with a verbal price and no actual breakdown of how he got to this price (for that much money I would have wanted a written quote with every option spelt out). Eventually he suggested if we only want "Costco quality" (sniff - we must be cheapskates) then he could get the price down to something a little over $500 for ONE pair of glasses (again, still a price AFTER all insurance subsidies). In the end we went back to Costco and got two better set of frames with all the lens options for a little over $500 for two glasses each (BEFORE any out of network insurance subsidy). Perhaps the tech Sterling Optical had was a bit better (given I never got a written quote I still don't know what I was being sold) but the used car salesman tactics they tried were completely wrong for selling what I see as a function first medical device. I **think** they were trying to sell Transitions Xtractive Polaroid to me vs. Costco's older Transition technology. Perhaps I will try Zenni's to see what the tech is like. I priced this out at Zenni's with premium progressive, all the premium lens options and their most expensive frames and it comes out at around $260. If I buy that as well as the two sets of glasses from Costco it STILL comes out cheaper than a single pair of glasses from Sterling Optical.
