Incredibly rude staff and overpriced. You really get the feeling that they don't want you in there at all. Unfortunately for the consumers/visitors to the area, this place has the monopoly on any supplies or last minute goods you might need. Please do yourself a favor and hit up one of the grocery stores or Walmarts in one of the nearby towns..this place is not deserving of your money. Fred should be ashamed really, that his wonderful idea of a business is being destroyed by his staff and pricing.

Ni cute place. Going at the begining fall was the perfect time to see the outdoors decorations. Beautiful indeed. And yes they have a little bit of everything necessary for a short visit if you are in an Airbnb like we were.

Just a fun place to stop and shop at the top of Beech Mountain. They sell gifts, have a small grocery store area, and absolutely anything else you may imagine you could need from toys to candies to hiking gear to automotive supplies to Christmas ornaments and even firewood. If you visit Beech Mountain make sure you take time to stop in and see all the neat things they have to offer!

Cute little stop for groceries, souvenirs and everything in between. If Fred doesn’t sell it - you don’t need it!:) Great staff, nice experience browsing the selection of goodies. They also carry beer and wine. Enjoy this little stop while visiting Beech Mountain!

Cute little local, one stop shop. From groceries, to hiking gear, to a deli. The groceries are a little pricey, as to be expected. Do not expect grocery store prices. The deli has a nice size menu with items also suitable for vegan/vegetarian. We tried the kids grilled cheese, veggie wrap, hamburger and nachos. They all were good. The only thing that is that it took over an hour for our food to come out.

Fred’s is such a quaint General Mercantile, that it feels like a destination in and of itself! I have bought everything from food, toiletries, artwork, shoes, your name.. at Fred’s … he has it! Nice family run store with lots of history! To me, Fred’s is an iconic symbol of the mountain.

Everything you could ever want in a general all on one place in Beechwood. I particularly liked the old signage on the walls. Great memories of ads long past

Fred's is such a cute little store with anything you could need. Fred's Backside Deli was very delicious too, everyone was happy with their sandwiches. It was fun to get the order to go, walk across the street, and eat them at Atlantic Ale House.

Store is pretty cool. Lots of stuff. However, the male cashier was a bit of an A-hole. He finished checking out the person in front of us. When it was our turn he wouldn't even raise his head and look at us. The lady next to him said you ring them up and I'll bag he didn't acknowledge her either. She kept ringing people up while we stood there. I finally had to shove our stuff over to her so we could leave.

I've been debating leaving this review for a while, but, it's time.Look, the place is stupid expensive. Most items are double what you'd pay at a grocery store. I kinda get it. It's a convenience location. It's either here, or drive another 20 minutes to get to the actual grocer. I've come to peace with that, and only really pop in occasionally for one or two items. But I was in there a few months ago, and the guy behind the counter, his name is Fred, but not the owner Fred, asked me where I was coming in from. I told him the name of the street we live on, full time. He then replied with "good, if you would have said Florida, I would have come across the counter and stabbed you."I just kinda stared at him as he laughed away.I've been in there since, and most of the other people working there are super nice. But that guy is obnoxiously loud, arrogant, and rude. I've heard him say the same (or similar) to others, and just shake my head. Especially since Florida residents probably own half the homes up here, and make up a massive portion of the town's tourism revenue.

Stopped in for lunch at Fred's. Great staff, great food, and nice atmosphere. My husband ordered the turkey club and couldn't finish it. After lunch we visited the store and picked up a souvenir. We're planning on going back for breakfast before we leave Beech.

It’s a nice shop that has a little bit of everything (or almost) one needs when up here in the mountain. It could be a little bit more friendly to vegans and/or vegetarians. The day that we stopped by, there was not a single option of non dairy milk, vegan butter or cheese. I was kind of expecting that, so we brought everything from home. Staff friendly and helpful.

Such a neat place! It’s like stepping back into the past. This is the only place on top of the mountain where you can get your general codes to get you through a few days. Old time wooden shelves, Grace store walls. Kind service with a smile can you see that small town feel. Grab a bite to eat downstairs if you need something quick.

Absolutely had the WORST experience here. We will not be returning to beech mountain based off of the horrible customer service we experienced from the employees from this establishment as well as other businesses in this area. The employees at this establishment deliver the worst customer service we have ever experienced. I suggest you to consider ANY other option of renting ski materials!!

The absolute rudest and most unhelpful staff. They are extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. The attitude from each staff member was truly unacceptable, please do not waste your time and money.
