The Scrape Exchange Thrift Store's philosophy and business practices earns them high regard in my book. The vast majority of donations they receive are utilized and offered for sale to the public.I work in the recycling industry and I've seen A LOT of waste. Thrift stores and donation centers are not immune to the unfortunate practice of mindless disposal. The Scrap Exchange is an exception in that regard. The Scrap Exchange conscientiously manages the donations they receive. They are not wasteful. They offer for sale (at reasonable prices) the vast majority of the donated goods they receive.I've discovered that many of the other Thrift stores chronically throw away a high percentage of items that the public donates to their resale businesses. Consider that they all are dependent on free donations to operate their businesses. These type of stores are beholden to the generosity of the public. Donors presume that the items they donate will be given a chance to be offered for sale. The whole philosophy of donating to Thrift stores is based on society's obligation to reduce wastefulness.Remember: recycle, reduce, reuse. The Scrap Exchange exemplifies the practice of waste not, won't not. They value the generosity of their donors. And they provide an exciting, eclectic and satisfying shopping experience for their customers. For years i've treasured being a regular customer of their store. For most people, when they donate goods to second-hand resale operations, it's because the items are still usable. There's is often, also, the aspect that donating items for reuse will help less fortunate people. Many thrift stores, or restores, claim that the proceeds garnered from the sale of donations, are intended to be invested in providing something for poor and less fortunate people. Read the fine print... just because a business entity is a non-profit, does not necessarily mean that they are self-sacrificing and austere. The fact that Scrap Exchange operates as a non-profit is another of the many reasons to make them your go-to Thrift shopping destination! You'll love it!

Welcome to a veritable wonderland for crafters and artists. They inspire the imagination. I wanted to crochet a fidget bao or steamed dumpling for my daughter. I found yarn, poly fill and buttons plus 4 stamps and 3 stamp pads and put them in a nice pencil case for the hefty sum of $9. The place is beautifully organized!

Great place to find usual thrift store goods as well as crafter and oddball supplies. Quirky and fun atmosphere!

This is my favorite small business in the entire Research Triangle! I instantly feel an inviting atmosphere when I walk in. All along the walls and throughout the gallery is art that’s original and creative, and I love that everyone is invited to contribute! The prices here and at the neighboring thrift store are unbeatable. I found 3 tops and 2 pairs of pants for under $20 there. 10/10, best spot in Durham.

Just went today and had so much fun!! It's like they don't understand the word trash, but in the most wonderful way! I WISH more thrift stores used their model. They have a more traditional thrift store building and then the scrap building where they organize stuff that most thrift stores would just send to landfills. I found a lot of great art supplies in amazing condition at impossible to beat prices. Oh, and that's the other thing: this thrift store still has thrift store prices. They aren't marking things up bc of people hunting stuff down for 2nd hand selling like other thrift stores have been. Really great place and I can't wait to go back! I wish their music was quieter though. It hurt my ears and I couldn't stay as long as I wanted

I love the concept of this place! I shop there almost every week. Every city should have one of this stores. Also you have to check out the Artisan Market inside. ? It’s full of pure gold!

I've been coming here for years but have noticed the prices increasing in both the scrap store and thrift store. These items are donated and it makes no sense for prices to go up.My last trip I had a bad experience with a cashier. Her name is. Brittany, according to my receipt. I bought a lot of loose scrapbook paper and that gets charged by the pound. She weighed everything and put it in a box then piled to rest of my items on top. The papers got all bent up and folded over! Some packs of stickers were so bent up that the stickers released from their cardboard backing! Ridiculous! I ended up having to lay heavy books on top of a lot of things to try to get them flattened back out. A few pieces had to be thrown away unfortunately.I think that next time, if there is a next time, I will insist on packing my own box myself!

Excellent spot for a treasure trove of various crafts and projects. You never know what you'll find! Sometimes they may bot have what you're looking for, but that's to be expected; thrifting isn't ever a guarantee. However, you'll likely have a fun time hunting, regardless!

One person's scrap is another person's great find! If you are looking for items to re-purpose. This is a great place. We found logs for the fireplace that are usually used for gas fireplaces. We re-purposed them in the warmer months with LED lights so we have that fireplace glow all year long. Cost$6.00 for what you could pay $130.00 if purchasing new.

I wouldn't recommend this store the worst ever .Prices are high incredibly from shoes bag to the electronics that lately all got overpriced . This store use to be nice spot to thrift but now is more as a eBay store . You will get more cheap deal online than this store . Who ever manage the store need to get the store back how it was .

The best ever. My favorite thing: I customize, collect, and sew for vintage, modern, and artist dolls. They have a whole section that’s just doll stuff - vintage clothes, parts, and complete dolls. Also, the people who work here are literally the nicest and sweetest!!It’s a must-see if you’re visiting Durham.
