The A/C went out in my sedan. I know enough about cars to do some basic diagnostics and was pretty sure the issue was caused by a failure with my A/C compressor. It was a very busy week but the hot summer weather demanded that the A/C get fixed so my family didn't have to contend with the heat. I contemplated doing the work myself but didn't have a vacuum machine to collect and store the used freon. So, I took the vehicle to the Honda dealership to get an estimate of the work. They agreed with my assessment (a faulty A/C compressor) and noted that the fan was not functioning normally. Their estimate was about $2,100. I priced out the parts myself and determined that I'd do the job myself and just pay Honda to evacuate the A/C lines for me.
Getting to "Getz"...
Because I didn't really want to wait for mail-order parts to arrive or block out time during the day to do the work, I considered getting a second opinion. This is where I took the car to Getz Automotive to get an estimate for replacing the A/C compressor and cooling fan. I even left the paperwork with diagnostics and pricing from Honda so that the Getz technician could baseline his own work estimate.
I was extremely disappointed to receive a call with an estimate of over $3,000 dollars (and a sidenote that Honda had quoted a minimalist's job). Getz had included replacing the A/C condenser as part of the job. They even told me that if I attempted to open the A/C lines that I would introduce moisture into the system and it would never work right after that. That especially irritated me because it's not true--that's exactly what the vacuum system does to get the lines clear, and bring up the correct pressure in both lines. ANYONE can do this job with a little grit, the right tools, and a YouTube video--which is exactly what I did.
I brought the vehicle home and ordered what the dealership suggested: an A/C compressor, the cooling fan, and some rubber gaskets.
The entire job took me 30 minutes, including the time it took to jack up the car and put it on jackstands. After visual inspection, there was no indication that the condenser needed to be replaced. Then, I drove the car back to Honda and had them recharge the A.C system.
I had to pay Honda $450 between the diagnostic, the A/C evac and the recharge... then it cost me a whopping $525 in OEM parts.
All in at less than $1,100 ($925 if I hadn't had to get the freon vacuumed before doing the work myself) and the A/C is blowing cold, cold, cold!
Two stars for quoting a ridiculous price and trying to pile on additional parts and labor.

Very responsive. Not too many places work on Volvo cars other than the dealership around here. Getz got my son's Volvo taken care of and were able to fix it below the original estimated amount. They were always pleasant to speak with and provided regular updates. They also offered to get our son an Uber to get him there if needed when it was time to be picked up. We will use them again without question!

The experience I have had with Getz Automotive has been nothing short of amazing. The staff is friendly and take the time out to actually listen to you, and explain things. One of the owners even spoke with me and my son to get feedback on what drinks and items could help improve customer satisfaction. Very enjoyable experiences so far.
