“After we settled into our hotel room (Red Roof), our thoughts turned to our stomachs. My wife was under the weather a bit which, being threatening storms and rain, there was a lot of weather to be under. So I checked Google Maps (what did I do before we had our devices?) and saw a Food Lion in a nearby shopping center. If it hadn't been storming, I think it would have been nearly as fast to walk, but I valiantly fought traffic for 3/10 of a mile and came home with victuals for the family unit. It was a typical supermarket, with plenty of choices for the modern post service era shopper. I thought the bakery lacked imagination in its products, which was offset by a rambunctious deli where my dinner awaited me. Chicken soup for the wife's dicey tummy, fried chicken for me and - hey, how did that Milky Way bar get into my grocery bag?”

“They have the best and most affordable meat. It's nice having a grocery store that actually has a meat department where you can get personal service. It's the only store I can purchase real cornmeal and they have air dried sausage and hoop cheese.”

“I feel the prices were a little high compared to other stores but man oh man was the cashier and bag gentleman were uber friendly and helpful even in a situation where most people get aggravated or snappy. This is why I'm giving the store a 5 instead of 4! Very thankful for their kindness and these two employees are exactly what businesses NEED to keep on staff, and therefore NEED to pay a wage reflecting that. It's true "good help" is hard to find since covid, but even more so it's true that "good help" is hard to keep if you're not paying "good help" wages. Hope they get paid what they are worth.”
