Lazy and vindictive staff. Refused to honor an online reservation, not because they were out of cars, but solely because I called Avis customer support to ask for assistance, after waiting at their physical kiosk for nearly 30min without being assisted by anyone. If no one is visibly present at your kiosk, what else do you expect anyone to do? Also refused to process the refund for the paid reservation. Had to call Avis customer support a 2nd, then 3rd time in order to do that. Use any other company.

DO NOT rent a car from the New Bern, North Carolina, Avis location at the airport.I arrived on an American Airlines flight, late Sunday, and due to some transportation challenges, the Avis location was the only location that had a car rental available. They apparently took advantage of this by giving me a dirty car with crumbs and food wrappers in it as well as a half tank of gas. The car also smelled like smoke. All this for $110 a day.I complained to the location when I return the car the next day, and told them that I only paid for the gas that I used. That appeared to be fine. But I was charged a $91 cleaning fee. A cleaning fee on a car that they gave me that was already dirty. I noticed this charge on my corporate credit card, so I called the location up to inquire about the fee. The agent was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. She told me it was their position. They would never rent a car without a full tank of gas, nor would they rent a car with a dirty interior. I was refused a refund. When I told the agent that I would be disputing the charge, her only reply was "good luck." no offer to help, or no offer to remedy the situation.I called the Avis corporate number in order to get a refund of the fee.Do not use this location. And if you do wind up using this location, watch out for extra charges that are not authorized.

This review goes out to Shawn, who decided to go home and leave me stranded at the airport (with an unfulfilled reservation) because she assumed I missed my flight. I had called this Avis location prior to departing from my connecting airport to make sure they would still be open despite my flight arriving late and I was assured that someone would still be there. I went to grab my bag from the carousel and when I got to the counter, the lights were off and there wasn’t anyone there. It took multiple airport employees to eventually get me out of the terminal and on my way to my destination. Please never rent from this location. Professionalism is nonexistent and you will end up disappointed.

Worst Avis location ever. Don’t rent from this Avis, I’ve never had an issue renting a vehicle but the manager at this location doesn’t seem to understand direct billing so I was denied a rental vehicle because my drivers license information didn’t match the info for the direct bill. Just go to a different Avis or use budget/hurtz for this airport.

Shawnte was awful as a customer service representative. With a reservation, there was no car available. As she explained to me, it was not her fault they overbook by 40% per policy. At the airport, no car and absolutely no help. Called corporate and they were shocked as well by the attitude of the "customer service" representative. Do not use Avis as this airport. Or if you do make sure you're not in the 40% overbook!

Never use them again. Reservation made 30 days ago. Emailed 24 hrs prior to pickup that it is unavailable.

I needed a car rental on short notice and Shanti, Linda and Jason really saved me. They were all extremely helpful, compassionate and efficient. I've been to many car rentals in the past and these folks are really the best. Thank you guys!!!!

Avis in general has been easy to work with in comparison to other rentals I’ve used however, the staff in New Bern are exceptionally friendly and a joy to interact with. Linda goes above and beyond to make sure your needs are met. I highly recommend this location.

One of the most horrible trip experiences EVER! I will NEVER rent a car from this place again. My mother purchased a rental car for me from another state but they would not let me rent it because I could not provide her credit card when I picked up. They would not let me use my debit card. I had to cancel. There is no refund once the time has passed for pick up. She was out $130. My bf had a CC so he offered to rent the car for me. Then the woman said she was doing me a favor by getting a cheaper deal for me. However she ended up costing me $500 for a fee for one-way driving but did NOT say a word about it! I found out only once I already reached Florida!!! I told her over and over again it was a one way destination but she messed up and put me for a round trip. This facility almost costed me close to $700 for a one-way trip from North Carolina to Florida. Good thing it was Christmastime and the supervisor in Florida fixed the situation and I only paid $230. I found out that only the facility at this airport will not let you use a debit card. Be careful when using this facility! I will never come here again.

My flight landed before 2pm. It's is now 2:35pm in this airport. I still do not have my vehicle. It's here, because I checked when I got here before going to the counter and it is not ready. It was being cleaned they told me, minutes later a person comes in and ask when do you need the Tacoma to the gentleman at the desk who's customer service was going great until he told me he extended my rental to 7pm. Not helpful! My flight is at 6pm, the car will be back by 4. Save me money for making me wait an hour for a car that was in the lot. I'll unfortunately being back to this area because my oldest is stationed here but I will not be using dollar or AVIS!! And by the way the Tacoma they were cleaning was dirty!! Bottlein the bed of the truck, under the seat and crumbs everywhere. Highly disappointing!!!! Enterprise here I come!!
