Pet Care

Startown Veterinary Hospital
2360 W North Carolina 10 Hwy, NewtonWe brought my dog Molly there with unexplained bruising on her abdomen and doctor Matt Pennell was AMAZING. My sweet girl is very scared of men due to something that happened in her past before we rescued her and by the time we left she was jumping on him to say goodbye. I highly recommend Dr. Matt and his AMAZING team. Molly will always come back to Startown!

Animal Hospital-Newton Conover
1529 Northwest Blvd, NewtonVery good place with amazing staff been a client for over 8 years never once had an issue until last visit went for a puppy weigh in and to get heart worm meds Another person was there with a overly big dog that was aggressive towards other pets Her and her monster of a dog had all others sitting outside with scared pets while
she sat there totally oblivious of other people Wasn't the staffings fault but maybe with pets that large and aggressive have them wait in their car for a text when a room is open to bring their pet inside Win win for everyone

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Dianne's Dairy Center
1712 N Main Ave, NewtonIn an age of fast food chains and online delivery apps, it’s easy to overlook the value of our local mom and pop diners. But these small, family-run establishments are more than just places to grab a meal—they’re the heart and soul of our communities. One in particular mom and pop diner is Dianne's Dairy Center in Newton, NC. A mom and pop diner that has been around for decades and one that brings warmth and familiarity that no corporate chain can replicate. Eileen, the current owner and her staff all know many of their customers by name, remember their favorite orders, and create a sense of belonging that makes everyone feel at home. They support local farmers, hire local workers, and keep money circulating within the community instead of sending it off to corporate headquarters in another state. I had my first visit at this diner today and I have never felt so welcomed into a restaurant like I did today along with a most warm meal. So darn friendly! These diners serve as gathering spots—places where neighbors meet, friendships form, and stories are shared over a hot cup of coffee. They preserve local flavor, tradition, and culture, offering homemade recipes passed down through generations. Recipes not filled with processed ingredients like your McDonalds, Chic filets, Burger Kings, Taco Bells, etc. These wonderful mom and pop diners are fewer and fewer. When we lose these small diners, we lose more than a business—we lose a piece of our community’s identity. Supporting mom and pop diners means supporting real people, real food, and real connection. Get out of the corporate fast food chain addiction and support your local mom and pop diners like this one. Let’s make an effort to visit them, promote them, and keep their doors open. Because without them, our towns and cities would feel a lot less like home. Keep it going Eileen and company! Well done! Rob K.
