M A Pace General Store is a step back in time, offering an old time feel from a different era. It is an interesting general store that has been opening its doors continuously for 124 years, looking much the same as it did over a century ago. It functions as a museum, antique store, ice cream counter, and hardware store all in one, a great spot to see and look around. The store carries thousands of traditional and contemporary items. It still has staples like bread, butter, milk, and bananas, alongside other essential items for mountain life such as local vegetables, jams, honey, preserves, homemade salad dressing, salsas, and odd items like migraine powder. It also offers rakes, paint, and plumbing supplies. The interior is filled with mountain memories and memorabilia, including the old original scales and carts and an operational 1913 cash register. Visitors enjoy Southern hospitality and ice cream from the counter. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere provides a great experience and fellowship, making it a living history lesson on the area.
