About Shell-Shaped Shell Station (Historic Landmark)
The Shell-Shaped Shell Station is a historic landmark and unique tourist spot in Winston-Salem. It is a single-story service station built in 1930 in the shape of a giant scallop shell. This is an example of novelty architecture and the only remaining one of several original shell-shaped stations. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in the Waughtown-Belview Historic District. The station closed in the 1950s and is not a working gas station, but a piece of history. It was restored to its original form. Visitors can see two old pumps outside and a ramp for working on cars. Inside is a statue of an attendant. It is a very cool and interesting stop for a photo and a bit of history, definitely worth a visit. It is recommended as a great stop to take a little walk during a long drive. Some note the neighborhood is not so nice. A downside is that it can be closed, with no exterior signage for visitors when the interior is inaccessible.

Good for pictures, make sure you don't go alone and during the day only because the area around does not look too safe.

Cute little thing. We drove up from Charlotte because I saw it on Google and had to see it in person.

Interest bit of Americana. Amazing that it has been saved. Great photo site for your classic card or bike.
