A Dog-Lover’s Mixed Experiene
My stay at Brewhalla began wonderfully. The corner King Suite was comfortable, and the staff went above and beyond—everyone, from the front desk to the market team, was exceptionally courteous and attentive. Under normal circumstances, this would easily be a 5/5 stay… however, there’s a glaring contradiction that left me baffled and disappointed: the hotel’s strict no-pets policy clashes shockingly with its otherwise dog-friendly vibe.
Brewhalla’s market area is a paradise for pet owners! Well-behaved dogs are welcomed warmly, and the atmosphere radiates inclusivity for furry companions. This makes the hotel’s stance even more confusing. How can a space so openly embrace dogs in its market yet ban them from rooms entirely? As a traveler who values pet-friendly accommodations, this policy feels out of touch with Brewhalla’s own community.
The issue became personal when my friend arrived in town with their dog, forcing me to cut my 5-night stay short and relocate to a different hotel. Brewhalla’s target audience—young, adventurous, and responsible travelers—often includes pet owners who prioritize their animals as family. To exclude this demographic feels like a missed opportunity. Responsible pet guardians (like my friend and me) aren’t asking for leniency; we’re seeking consistency with the market’s welcoming spirit.
My animals are non-negotiable companions, and I urge Brewhalla to realign their hotel policy with their market’s dog-friendly ethos. If they revise this rule, I’d gladly upgrade my 3/5 rating to a glowing 5/5. Until then, the disconnect remains a dealbreaker for pet-loving guests like myself. I'm hoping they rethink this policy—it’s the final puzzle piece to make Brewhalla truly unforgettable.

So, there are a couple things to consider before you stay here.
Brewhalla is a cool idea, the rooms are fantastic in design if you like the 'industrial' style of interior design. Food is pricey but good, and atmosphere is well cultivated. But there are a few drawbacks to how it's currently run.
- there is no sound proofing at all. Every sound is going to ECHO all night. If you have sensitive ears that's going to be a problem. They provide a noise machine and ear plugs to offset a lot of it, but there are a lot of opportunities for 'noise' at all hours of the day and night. For example, a 3rd floor room can clearly hear what's happening on the second floor. The whole building creaks and shifts in the wind, which will make quite a bit of noise. If it were just the train yard that's fine, but the current design allows for all sound to just echo.
- there is no desk to call after 10 pm. If another guest is being loud or unruly/not following quiet hours, you're going to be out of luck. And with the sound echoing, prepare to hear EVERYTHING.
- minimal service as a feature. This I don't have a problem with, but others may not appreciate it. They're pretty clear that housekeeping won't be coming unless requested, keep that in mind.
Overall, cool idea with a lot of problems in the execution. The whole thing would be improved with someone on location to enforce quiet hours so guests don't have to try and navigate situations like I currently find myself in ... I would like to not approach other drunk people like batman and demand they quiet down. It may be worth looking at updating the sound proofing of the rooms as well, I don't have a problem with the current design if everyone can respect it. But, expecting an 'on your honor' approach doesn't work.
3/5, spent a lot of money and won't be coming back. Which bums me right out.i
Rooms: Cool designs and can art everywhere.
Safety: No desk access after 10pm.
Noteworthy details: -neoindustrial room design
-no carpets
-no soundproofing

Very fun and eclectic atmosphere! Went with a large group and we all got to choose what we wanted to eat and had a great time. Beer, drinks, pizza and gelato were the favorites!!

The marketplace/brewhall is awesome. We came in with a huge group and had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy ourselves. Food options were all solid and the beer was delicious!

5-star Market, 1-star Hotel.
Very torn as I write this as the shopping area is awesome! Was really looking forward to writing a five star review, however since the two are technically one business I can only award 2 stars overall.
So for those who are unaware Brewhalla serves as a melting pot or "Brew-Hall" encompassing 4 floors featuring many businesses including, Drekker Brewing as well as many local eateries, craft stores, pet stores, custom goods, pinball machines, and reservable event venues; with the top two floors being for the hotel.
Upon entering you'll quickly discover how pet friendly the location is, with multiple people and store owners having pets with them. However DO NOT be misled. Pets ARE ONLY ALLOWED in the building itself, and NOT in the hotel.
That's right folks, despite the pet friendly atmosphere, the hotel will not allow you to stay with them unless you have a service animal.
After attempting to book a room from the night I was turned away for having a dog. With the desk clerk even stating "just tell me he's a service animal" UNBELIEVABLE.
To add insult to injury, as I was exiting, (tail between my legs) I encountered another guest in the stairway approaching the hotel... I saw he had a dog so I let him know my experience... his reply "oh, yeah, just tell them you have a service animal and they will allow you to stay." WOW-I refuse to stoop to that level, talk about bad karma.
I've mentioned this story to multiple people in the market, all of whom were shocked to learn the pet policy of the hotel. Honestly not sure what they're trying to accomplish by banning pets in the hotel. The industrial design makes it near impossible for the pet to damage anything, and conflicts the entire atmosphere built by making the market area pet friendly...why allow them in one and not the other? Especially since the reviews of the hotel are already terrible due to the noise of the nearby train.
PRO Tip: Definitely visit Brewhalla and all the businesses inside, however if you have a pet don't bother with the hotel. Stay elsewhere
(I recommend Hotel Donaldson. They allow pets, are in prime downtown location and not far from Brewhalla)
Really hoping this review inspires a re-evaluation of the pet policy for the hotel. Would definitely stay next year when I make my annual Fargo visit.

We came here for a wedding and enjoyed the space and atmosphere. The venue was nice and the service and drinks were great. However, we didn’t find it very baby friendly. When we asked staff about a lactation space we were told we could use the family restroom. It was clean and had enough space, but nursing in a public restroom is far from ideal. Another issue is that there are only two family/gender neutral restrooms, and these were the only places we could find a changing table. We had to wait several times during the course of the evening. More changing tables and a dedicated lactation space would make the experience here with a baby on par with other venues. Other than that aspect we had a great time.

I think they could get better shops in there. It's really lackluster to me. Just not a lot of interesting stores to check out while drinking your beer. I usually go chill on the second floor and leave after my beer.

We live 6 hours away. The motel called me and recommended I cancel then would not refund the fees I paid. This was 2 hours before check in.

Brewhalla is a great location to grab lunch with a friend, get some work done or pick up a few essentials. The best part? It's dog friendly to all breeds. This is one of our favorite spots in all of Fargo.

Upon arriving to check in at our hotel, for which we had paid $200, we encountered a lack of clear signage directing us to the check-in location. I took the elevator to the third floor, marked "hotel," but it was a kind gentleman on the elevator who informed me that check-in was actually at the bar, where I would receive a code tp allow me to access that floor.
After locating the bar, I completed the check-in process and obtained my code.My friend and I opted to enjoy a few drinks, which amounted to approximately $60. Unfortunately, the bartender was both rude and condescending when we inquired about the local events scheduled for that evening. Another staff member barely acknowledged our presence.
Afterwards, we returned to our room, only to find it extremely cold. The thermostat was locked, restricting the temperature to a maximum of 78°F, with no option to turn off the fan. The floors were icy cold, and the overall atmosphere of the room felt more like a prison cell than a hotel.
Later that night, we were hungry, but discovered there were no vending machines or food service available after the market closed. I attempted to call for additional blankets, but I learned that there was no hotel staff available after 10 PM. The phone simply directed me to a frustrating voicemail with no options for guests seeking assistance.
I woke up the next morning with a sore throat, a result of sleeping next to a constant fan and essentially an air conditioner. While I understand that some guests may appreciate the hotel's aesthetic, I personally would never choose to return. The staff appeared mostly uptight and snobbish, the rooms were impractical, and the customer service was lacking.Overall, my experience was quite disappointing, and the only takeaway I have is a sore throat from enduring the frigid environment of what felt like a jail cell.

Not impressed! Some unique shops, but not telling a guest that your room is on the side of a train track is inexcusable. No restaurants open past 8:00 p.m. Now if you want to drink, have at it; they’re open way past 8:00! If you’re between the ages of 21-30, you’ll probably enjoy this industrial-type hotel.

Didn’t stay at the hotel…visited the market and brewery next door. Very interesting concept, loved that dogs were welcome inside. Reminded of a modern airport retail concept. Unfortunately like most airports, food was expensive and disappointing. Lots of beer and wine options in the three bars, but the beers we had were too odd for our taste,

Plenty of space to spread out and a nice compliment of pinball machines with pay to charge electric vehicle charger outside in parking lot.

Really awesome fun please, my expectations may have been a bit more than what was available, but that was mostly my fault
Rooms: The room was a bit smaller than expected, and lacked a few hotel features that I'm used to staying in, but was still super cool and nice having a room right over the tap room
Food and drinks: A great variety of food and drink options to satisfy any tastes right on premise

The food hall and brewery: 5/5. Great food, fun stores, and awesome (3 bars!) beer. Check it out. Would recommend to anyone.
The hotel: 1/5 at best.
- Check in is at 3. No earlier. They literally lock you out until then, even if your room is ready. I get it, but also can check in earlier at a Motel 6 if a room is ready. The hall loses its magic when you have to move luggage around waiting for a timer to be done.
- Some rooms are right next to the train tracks. Loud trains every 30mins - 2 hours regularly. Not easy to sleep. Everything in the room rattles when one goes by…wondered if I was in the Blues Brothers. No wonder they give you earplugs in the bathroom. I’m sure the other side of the hotel is fine, but at $230+/night, that’s insane.
- “Shades” keep little light out. Hope an early wake up from the sun is okay.
The bed was comfy, and the place was clean. But, lots of noises, rattles and wasn’t a good place to relax.
I’m so sad to say that I wouldn’t stay there again. I was looking forward for months, and it was unfortunately a disappointment.
