“This is such a cool shop! They didn’t even care when I went in barefoot in summer! Staff über friendly. When you buy from here, you’re supporting the local indigenous community and the arts. Such a great place and atmosphere!”
“Warm welcome upon entry, we were seduced by this museum to which access is free. We loved everything: the architecture, the layout of the rooms, the variety of content, the richness of the history, the exploration of the fauna and flora, the challenges of industrialization and life in the great north, knowledge of indigenous peoples. We felt harmony and respect in the relationships between different peoples and cultures. This visit made us love Canada even more, our beautiful and great country, for me who comes from southern Quebec. In addition, at the gates of the museum begins the Frame Lake trail: another must-see in Yellowknife. Even at -28 degrees Celsius, our hike was memorable and very pleasant.”
“The Gallery of the Midnight Sun is an absolute gem in Yellowknife.
You’ll want to give yourself at least a couple of hours here—there’s that much to take in. The stone carvings are exquisite, the kind you can stand in front of and lose track of time. The Inuit beadwork, artwork, and handcrafted clothing are beautifully curated and showcase incredible northern talent.
And the gifts? Endless. Every corner has something unique and genuinely cool, making it one of the most fun places to do your Christmas shopping. Whether you’re looking for authentic northern art or just something special to bring home, this gallery is a must-visit. I loved it. ❤️❤️❤️”
“Very friendly and chatty owner. Everything in the shop is authentic and he can tell you stories about their provenance. You may occasionally encounter Indigenous peoples coming into the store trying to sell their products to the shop. The price is about the same as the gift shop at the airport, but there's just so much more products available at this store while airport gift shop is limited by the shop size. He has some fur products but his main specialty is carvings. Sometimes you're lucky to find muskox or polar bear carvings made by artists originally from further north (Inuvik or Tuktoyaktuk). I picked up a nice carving at a reasonable price and will go back for more.”
