3 stars because I can usually find at least a smattering of products related to what I am looking for. Of course, being a big box, you are mostly only going to find larger selections for more popular crafts.
I am, however, almost tempted to dock another star over costumer service. Nobody should have to wait over 20 minutes to get a single marker from a case. There is a service light, which we tried, as well as another customer, who came much later than us, and was getting annoyed. During the initial 20 minutes, we even managed to stop an employee for help, and they said they would get someone, I started losing track of time after that. We eventually had to track down another employee, who thankfully was able to come back and help us. Happily, I knew what I needed, the other person waiting needed help finding a thick, white, opaque marker, like someone already doodled with on their paper pads. I suggested the posca paint markers, like I was getting, but the employee was unable to verify that the marker would work and could not let her sample it like she asked (and they clearly had some that were previously opened). The costumer thanked her and left with nothing. Btw, those markers are great, and would have been perfect for her, if only the sales lady could have confirmed.

Staff is always lovely and helpful. Even though I'm generally a fan of self-service, I'm not really a fan of it at Michaels. Quite possibly a personal opinion and I'm not there often enough to be used to how theirs works. It's a meh experience with using it.

Clean store, helpful staff, nice bathroom. Really good selection of items. A little pricey on some items but reasonable overall.

I purchased Mod Podge, outdoor glue. Attempted to use it and it did not work, did not even get tacky. I returned to the store within 2 hours with the product, but could not find my receipt. I asked if I could exchange the product for another product. I was told without the receipt there would be a 20% deduction on the price I paid. I took the glue back and stated I would keep it and go to Canadian Tire and purchase the product I wanted. Michaels lost a customer over 20% of an item that retails for $25.00. I wanted to exchange it for an item that costs $49.99 at Michaels and pay the difference. BTW, exact same product that cost 49.99 at Michaels I purchased at Canadian Tire for $29.99.

Last month I wrote that there is a store in Halifax where an arts and crafts persons can find everything or almost everything they need... well, this store is the same. Only "on a level" larger and with more pleasant prices. I would say that first of all you need to go here, and if you don’t find something, look elsewhere.
