Do it your-selfer building a deck. Came in to order material, with a materials list; computer imaging of the actual deck-to-be, and a few questions about railing systems.
My advice, make sure you are talking to someone who works with the material you need. For me, I needed Timbertech. The fella who was there the day I came in, clearly is not a Timbertech guy. Or at the very least, needs more training.
We ended up with a number of extra things, and missing half our railing system.
The day the delivery was scheduled, I was working from home so I could show the driver where to place the material. Wasn't hard, driveway was empty. Just stack it off to one side.
Instead, he drives through my yard, which had just been landscaped (new build house) and deposits the material in the grass. Material that was too heavy for me to move onto the driveway myself. He also leaves a stack of material on the opposite side of the driveway, in the grass -- which we later find out wasn't even ours, and they show up to collect unannounced. That was a whole separate issue.
In the end, we fixed our own yard as nothing notably was done about that. But they did get the mis-ordered material exchanged for the needed items and refunded the appropriate amounts. This process took way more time than necessary but ended up okay.”
“Went to the Middlefield Carter Lumber today for the first time. Saturday mid morning surprised it wasn't busy....great for me. I had called ahead and talked to Mark at the counter about needing 50- 2 x 4 x 14 treated YellaWood. Told me he had them and would put them marked in the system for me. Got there and also told him I needed 1,100 screws. He sold me a pail that had more than I needed but was cheaper than buying my original count. Helped also on my check out amount. Thanks Mark. Went to the yard and had a nice conversation with 2 Awsome yard men and together we came up with a great plan on loading them on my trailer for a longer trip home. Sorry I didn't get their names but I thanked them both very much.
