Was my first time calling the company, I would have given a 4 star if the phone options were not confusing, however, I kept calm and just redialed them and found what I was looking for! I was not on the call for long, they were kind on the phone and quick to find the answers for me. They were patient with me as I was with them. Overall, it was a good service.

-1,000,000 stars if I could. I’m a single mother and was briefly unemployed. I was on a payment plan, I’ve had to ask 2 different places for help with my electric & Duke keeps increasing the price. I went from $400 to $900 & every time I call them/use chat they keep making excuses and bring up 2 payment plans when I only made one payment plan. I’m changing electric companies as soon as this is paid off. I’m sick of their shit - it’s theft. You aren’t the only bill I pay, Duke. I have other bills I have to get caught up on. I honestly feel like contacting the news at this point.

So with you all knowing we can't afford these sky high prices, why would you hike up our bills like this. You can't possibly have compassion for any family, no matter the income, the color, the sickness or health of the individual. You make the decision to pay the bill or feed the family, real hard. Look at the reviews. Duke hasn't made any decisions on lowering the bill or making a plan for the consumer. Especially after covid, some people lives have changed for the worst and these bills that would usually be $120, is now $400-600. Why? I wish I could cancel Duke and find an alternative. You are a disgrace.

Not that writing a review will make them do anything or right any situation, but just putting my experiences out there. With how many people who have them as their energy company, either by choice or not, it is insane that so many people are squeezed out of more and more money.
March of last year, we move into this house and switch everything over into my name. I make EXTRA sure that included gas, as I’ve never lived anywhere else with gas, just electric. Whoever I talked to well over 1.5 years ago assured me everything, gas AND electric, was in my name. We had gas and used it just fine for the 1st year living in this house. Just about a year on the dot later, March 2024, it’s sprung on us that we need to pay over $800 in gas charges from the past year. How?? We were under the impression we were already paying gas THE WHOLE TIME. Apparently whoever turned the meter on (???) messed up. So im paying consequences for someone else’s mistake. They forced our hand into a 12month payment plan, otherwise no gas or electric for us.
Now, I moved my due date back by a week or so, however I fully anticipated for that to go into effect either in December or January. I was fully prepared to pay my November energy bill on the due date, no matter how strapped it left me. HOWEVER, I go back in my app to pay my bill on the 5th and it’s already pushed my due date to the 20th of November. It was a bit higher in cost since the due date was expanded, which I expected. I looked through the app to double check and make sure I didn’t need to pay anything right then and there, nothing in sight. So I wait on it and set aside my $375 to pay on the 15th when I am paid next, so I’m not going without groceries or gas in the car and it is well before the due date on the 20th. Well I open my app today and the bill is now $600 because of a delinquency charge of $192+ because of a missed payment on the 5th :) moral of the story is this, clearly it doesn’t matter how much scouring over you do with your bill, the app, maybe even the website. There is always something sneaky and hidden and I’m frankly tired of feeling like a clown, trying to prep and plan for all my bills to absolutely no avail.

Yall are a horrible company who over charges and when a bill is paid and you all still keep the electric off?! I have food going bad. Kids who have school and parents as myself who has to work in order to pay you all. Can’t stand Duke.
My husband called twice and you all said you would have it back on in an hour and don’t! It’s been since 4-5 pm and still nothing.

I wish I could give them ZERO STARS
Misapplied payment to my landlord, somehow, some way? I paid $500 to my account and it ended up on his. My electric has been shut off for 3 days and they are telling me will all the proof I have that I paid my account that it will be 5-7 business days so they can investigate my account?? MEANWHILE I SIT WITH NO ELECTRICITY?! People don’t want to do there jobs and are lazy and rube and have NO EMPATHY! What the hell is wrong with this company?! I’m sickened and outraged. Piss on DUKE

Shout-out to the linemen who were out at 3AM getting our power back on after a car crash caught the poles on fire.

Came home Sunday evening after vacation to find a notice from Duke Energy hanging on my front door stating that my gas service had been temporarily disconnected due to noncompliance with a required inspection. Apparently this shut-off was done five days prior to me arriving home. My bills are paid completely to date and the only reason is because of an inspection....really? Is that legal?? I have received no prior communication that there was a date that my service would be turned off. Don't they have to give me advance notice/date? I am soo mad that this is a Sunday night; I have no hot water and cannot cook on my gas stove. I'll be calling at 8:01am tomorrow. I'll also be making a few other calls; including ProSeniors, to discuss such situations and disconnection rights for people over 65.
