I've been a customer of Baer Wheels for approximately 3 years. Dave's thorough knowledge and expertise of bicycles and how to maximize the efficiency of them is amazing. I recently purchased a Jamis bicycle from him and he made several upgrades to the bicycle that have made it truly enjoyable to ride. I believe that he is the best bicycle engineer in the city, and I will always take my bike to him for servicing. Thank you so much for all of your help

Don't let the cool shop/late hours fool you, take your bike elsewhere.
As others have mentioned, Dave is rude, condescending, and doesn't value customer time.
Brought my bike in with a cracked front tire. I had spoken with Dave on the phone, 2 days prior about the crack, and my intention to bring it into the shop. Brought to shop on a Thursday. The wheel itself, a Mavic branded rim, has very tight tolerances, and thus is more difficult to get tires on. This was known to all parties prior to work started. I informed Dave that I still would like him to fit new tires on the wheels, regardless of serviceability on the roadside, should I have another flat/cracked tire. As I don't wrench myself, I would likely be calling someone from the roadside regardless and just wanted a new tire to ride on.
Thursday: Bring bike to shop, inquire about fitting new tire on the spot so I could ride that evening. "Won't be able to fix it now, I'm backed up, please leave it, I'll be able to call you in 36hrs on it"
Sure, no problem. At that point, since he was asking me to leave it, I mentioned adding brake pads (rim brake bike) and a new chain as well, to which he agrees.
Saturday (36hrs after drop-off) Called and asked for update:
"Bike is still in stand being worked on. I am a one man shop on the weekends. I need to find someone for sales. I get caught up chatting with customers, and can't work on bikes. Frankly, I don't even want to be talking to them (his actual words). I should have it wrapped up by end of the day" I inform Dave at this point that I would like to pick my bike up and take it to another local shop that can complete the work by Tuesday of the following week. "No, don't do that, I can get it done."
Sunday: Called again, same state as the day before "got caught up yesterday, still in stand, working on it today"
Monday: Go to shop in person. Walk in door, Dave and I make eye contact, at which point, I inform Dave that I would like my bike back, regardless of the state it is in/work that has been done. Dave informs me that my bike is still in the stand, and he needs a couple of minutes to wrap it up.
Wait in his non-AC'd shop for 30 mins. Dave calls my name. I come back to the service area, at which point he informs me "yeah, so I got the tire on that you requested, but it was really difficult. (again, this was known from the start) I didn't want you getting stuck on the road, so I just put the original tire back on."
When asked about the chain/brake pad work, "oh, yeah" and tries to yank my bike back out of my hands. At that point, I'm fed up, and let Dave know that had he not lied to me on Saturday, the work could have been completed locally by Tuesday, and leave the shop.
Work Order: new tires/pads/chain
Time in Shop: 4.5 Days
Work Completed: None
Save yourself the time, frustration and being lied to and take your bike and business elsewhere.

I stopped by this shop when i got a flat tire nearby, about 5 minutes before they closed. I initially just asked to use his free air pump, but when it became apparent that the tube was broken i asked to buy an inner tube. He installed it for me, and then performed a brake adjustment, repairing a factory defect on the bike. He stayed 15 minutes after close to help me, for just $30. I greatly appreciate the excellent service and low prices

they were so helpful getting me familiar with my bike’s gears! Their stop at the farmers market is also lovely for a quick fix or stop in. They also have tons of product in store

I dropped off a coaster brake wheel to have the hub repaired or replaced if necessary. Was told the process would be three days. It did not take three days.
Came back a week later to check on the repair. Was told that the repairs would take a couple of more days. Came back a week later after that. Was told there was little hitch in the repair and to come back a few days later. Came back a week after that. Was told that repairs were delayed because he was busy and to come back in a few days.
After three weeks on a repair that was quoted as three days, I just asked my for my wheel back. He said he would work on it right now and would only take 30 minutes. I told him I just wanted my wheel back. He said he was going to charge me for the work he has already done on the wheel. I said that I was fine with being charged and that I just want my wheel back even if it doesn't work. He proceeded to work on the wheel despite my protest.
While working on the wheel he made comments about how it was just him at the shop and that it was difficult for him to keep up with repairs when the customer service aspect took up a lot of time. He also admitted that he wasn't the best at gauging the time it would take to do repairs, but he noted that he would lose business when he gave more accurate quotes on repair times because people would go somewhere else.
The guys is aware of what's wrong with his business.
He puts the wheel back together, but it appears not to be completely repaired. I demand my wheel back, and he doesn't charge me.
I'll delete this review once he fixes the issues with his business.

I took a bike in that I had assembled myself for a tune up and check to make sure I did everything right. The process took about a week from drop off to pickup.
The good: Dave is very knowledgeable about bike repair and biking in generally. He gave me some advice on what to look for when I begin riding, and he was careful to point out what he had fixed and why he fixed it. The prices for the repairs were very good and the merchandise prices seemed competitive. I would definitely come back to shop and get Dave's advice on what to buy for biking.
The bad (or meh): it's unlikely that you will be given a firm timeline for a repair. If anything, you'll get a vague date range from "a few days to maybe a week." For a small project like checking brakes and the derailleur, that is likely longer than you expect for such a repair. The scheduling option on the website also appears to have little relationship to timing of the repair. If you call in, you'll likely get another vague timing estimate that may or may not be true. However, when I didn't hear back after my second call, I went in to retrieve my bike, which was ready, and I had a pleasant conversation about cycling with Dave.

I agree with Ken Pinder and other similar comments. Based on just the 2 calls I've had with this shop, I have serious doubts about the quality of work. I'll be driving a couple of hours out of my way to give my hard earned money to a shop that clearly wants and deserves it.

Quick, concise, fairly priced. If you live in columbus and you ride a bicycle it would behoove you to support this business.
