Able to get new batteries in old watches.

August 2022 by Fran Forbes
After taking my watch to a jeweler to get the battery replaced and being completely ignored because I obviously had no interest in buying a $1,000 watch, I took my Fossil to Dakota where I should have taken it in the first place. It's kind of a long drive but getting a two-year warranty and the battery replaced on my watch for under $30 makes it worth it. I left the watch with Dakota and went shopping for a few hours, then picked it up when I was done. It usually takes about a half hour to 45 minutes if they don't have another customer or two in front of you. They're worth the wait. They do a good job and I get my shopping done while they're fixing my watch.

Well...first I was told that my watch would be finished and ready for pick up on a certain day,I come weeks after said day..no mention of my watch being located. After locating my watch,I was then told that instead of the price I was told at the time of drop off,it's going to be an additional $100 to the cost...I was told my watch in total would be $96.00...i just called yet again today to check...got a voicemail message from them stating that my watch is going to cost a total of $198....for a batter, and glass...to a fossil?!??? ..I will never do business here again. ..Ps,they don't actually repair it .it gets outsourced to whomever they deal with)

I recently needed repair for my Seiko watch. The two female employees that normally work at the Great Northern location were extremely courteous and efficient. I have shopped at this store many times over the years, and most of the time this store is understaffed with many people waiting for service. Because most companies have a hard time finding good employees these days, I find most customers are generally impatient and rude. In my experiences, these two employees are friendly and do the best they can under the circumstances. I will continue to patronize this store for watch services.

Have had my Dakota watches serviced here for a long time now. Greatt staff and great selection. I really wish I could have bought one of the Spider series edition watches that the Dakota Watch Company used to put out- because it looked so finesse like it belonged in an MGM/UA 007 James Bond movie! Definitely a proud customer and my watches that I have from Dakota have survived for over 7 years now.

I have been going to Great Northern Dakota Watch Company for well over 20 years. The service and employees have always been excellent. The employee I encountered today was excellent, as well. However, I went to mall today only have batteries replaced in 3 watches. I had no other shopping to do. It was really busy and I had to wait, which was fine. I jokingly told the employee that I couldn't believe she was the only person working. She was clearly over extended with way more work than one person could handle. But she handled all customers professionally and calmly. She said it would take an hour and a half. Wow! So I browsed around the mall. Every time I looked, Dakota Watches was swamped. I totally understood why she had no time to get to my, or anyone else's, batteries and repairs. After two hours, I could wait no longer, and left without my watches. She also said they're not open on Tuesday or Thursday so I can't pick up my watches tomorrow either. What?! Not a bit of this is that employee's fault. But it is not my fault, either, that there was not adequate staff and that I could not be accommodated after 2 hours of waiting! The volume of customers may have been an usual circumstance, but again, not my fault. Provisions need to be in place for this sort of thing. I noticed they had a Help Wanted sign. No wonder. That poor girl probably ran screaming from work today, never to return again. I rarely give reviews, and never leave negative ones, but this really annoyed me.

I don't normally leave reviews, especially negative ones, but I had to based on their customer service and blaming me for a mistake THEY made. Long story short, they made an initial mistake (which is fine, they're human), but then refused to acknowledge it and blamed me for it, all so they could make another sale off me again. They talked to me like I was stupid and didn't honor their own warranty. Oh, and they messed up 40% of the job they initially did, forcing me to go through this whole process and pay double the money for one service. Look elsewhere for watch repair. The full details of what happened:A month ago I brought in five watches that needed their batteries replaced. Their initial customer service was good despite being relatively busy that day. It took 45 minutes but they changed out the batteries, I paid, and received my receipt and warranties. All good. When I got home, we noticed two of the watches were no longer working. No big deal, we had the warranties and would take them back eventually to get them fixed. When I got around to driving back to Dakota Watch Company (about four weeks later), after getting to the store and showing them my receipt/warranty, Terri (the manager) told me that the watches I brought back in weren't the ones that were initially fixed, so the warranty wouldn't cover them. She said the batteries didn't match the ones listed on the receipt. I told her I understand what she's saying but I also don't know anything about watch batteries, so if they put the wrong ones in the first time, I had no way of knowing. I also insisted that they were in fact the watches I brought in the first time, as the receipts listed them as "Tissot Gold" and "Fossil," and we literally don't own other watches that match that description. Not to mention, we noticed they weren't working AFTER TAKING THEM OUT OF THE BAG WE BROUGHT HOME FROM THE STORE.Terri continued to talk to me like I was stupid as if I couldn't understand her point that the watches didn't match the ones on the receipt. Not rocket science, I understood what she was trying to blame me for. She told me it wasn't their mistake but mine, and I should go home and check again even though I KNOW I DON'T OWN OTHER WATCHES LIKE THIS. Eventually I ended the argument by unfairly agreeing to pay the additional $46.33 (they gave me a whopping $2 off, but only because I had coupons from the first service) needed to replace the batteries they improperly put in the first time, but I told them I would leave a Yelp review because of their poor service. And, just to make sure I was in the right before leaving this review, I did in fact go through every watch we own to make sure I hadn't mysteriously forgotten about some watch, as she claimed. We do not, in fact, own another Fossil watch. And we only own one gold Tissot watch (we own another one with a black band, which we brought into the store and was separately marked on the receipt). To repeat: long story short, they made an initial mistake (which is fine, they're human), then refused to acknowledge it and blamed me for it, all so they could make another sale off me again. They talked to me like I was stupid and didn't honor their own warranty. Oh, and they messed up 40% of the job they initially did, forcing me to go through this whole process and pay double the money for one service. Look elsewhere for watch repair.

Treated rudely by female employee at Great Northern kiosk. While standing over 6 feet away on long side of counter employee was at short side of counter speaking with another customer and said to me "Back off till I can get to you". Everyone had masks on so I backed all the way home and will get my new watch band and batteries elsewhere. Terrible customer service.

Changed the battery on two watches. A Gucci and Michael Kors watch. The employee was friendly and did it fairly quick. Both are working awesome. I’ve also had them do Movado’s in my watch collection as well. They do great work here.
