I'm writing this review on behalf of my parents who stayed at the Island House on 2/24/24 and had an extremely poor experience. They were frequent guests of the hotel but will not be returning due to the poor service and inferior rooms. They paid $200+ for a room which ended up being only slightly larger than a closet. The bed was marketed as a queen but was actually a full bed with a lumpy mattress. There was loud noise in the hallway all night and the fire escape door was open so it was impossible to get any sleep. When they tried to issue a complaint to a hotel, the front desk dismissed their complaints, and their follow-up phone calls were ignored.

Just had my first visit to the Island House. What a great old style hotel. Lisa and staff are first rate. Great location as well. Looking forward to our next stay. Keep up the good work!

Nice, old world charm, with an awesome staff. Located near the Put-in-bay Ferry, shops and entertainment.

Rude staff. Uncomfortable rooms focused on appearance rather than comfort. No restaurant in the hotel. No continental breakfast. Miserable parking. No valet. No porter. Inconveniently located. Did I mention the rude staff? Not ADA compliant. They only have one elevator that is small and breaks down, frequently with guests in it. Anyone dream of getting stuck in an elevator when on vacation? By the way, the staff is rude.

Historic hotel walking distance from the lake. Shows its age in places, but fun.

Smaller rooms, but it's an older historic hotel. So to be expected.

If you like nostalgia. You will love the history of this place. Cons, the pub was closed and no continental breakfast. However, the proximity is close to other pubs and

Rooms are so dilapidated; even cheap motels would be better. Same rate rooms yet so vastly different. Floors are extremely dirty; bathroom didn't have an exhaust, bathroom shower door was falling apart. Some rooms just had one narrow window-it was so dingy.Booking sites mention that they provide breakfast but the truth is they do not provide breakfast. There were molds on ceilings as well.STAY AWAY and don't waste your money. It doesn't even deserve a single rating.

I'm 50 and not picky whatsoever, but this was the worst hotel that I've ever stayed in. I don't expect much, but for $236 for one night you would expect it to be clean at the very least. This is the first bad review I've ever given for a hotel. My wife, adult kids and I all had rooms here. My son and his wife chose to drive 2 1/2 hours back home rather than stay here because there were brown stains on their sheets along with other issues. I saw where someone stated over a month ago that the elevator wasn't working, well it still isn't. In the wife and I's room the refrigerator wasn't working, the ceiling fan wobbled so aggressively I was certain it would come crashing down any moment. The used soap and trash from the previous occupants was still in the room. The ac wasn't blowing very well, so I pulled the filter and globs of months/years worth of dust fell out. I took and cleaned it myself. If I had a sweeper, I would have swept the dirt and debris that was all over the floor. For those who remember the days of rabbit ear tv reception, that is exactly how ours was. This is a very poorly managed hotel. I'm in awe that this hotel has a 4.2 on Google. I can only assume it was once a great hotel, but that appears to no longer be the case. The only compliment I can give is to the ladies at the front desk who were very pleasant.

Mediocre service. Called on a Tuesday to ask for early check in (by one hour so I could get to a wedding on time) on a Saturday. They did not have my room ready and made me feel bad for daring to ask to check in. Unfriendly staff. Bedspread had a gross stain on it. But if all you need is a bed, it works.

Wonderful get away! Hotel location is great! W/in walking distance to cute shops, food and Jet Express. Room was quaint & very reasonably priced. Only suggestion - would be to take your shower before bed or super early in the am (if you enjoy a lot of hot water). Definitely would stay here again &/or recommend to friends!

My wife and I stayed overnight with 2 toddlers. We had a double queen room. Girls had enough room to run around with it being too tight. AC was perfect, walk in closet was a plus, beds were much more comfortable than you'd expect at an independent hotel. We really enjoyed the historical aspect of the place. Location was about 4 blocks from the park with a nice, quiet beach. Walking distance to many shops and eateries. The only drawback was the shower. While clean, the water temp was lukewarm at best. And I'm not talking at 9 AM when everyone is showering. I'm talking 9 PM. I found it refreshing. My wife, who generally prefers to shower in molten lava, was less enthusiastic.

Amazing staff, we booked a room for one night due to an emergency and they got us a room so fast. A special thanks to Phillip, sorry if I spelled that wrong, for helping us out so much. One of the best people you will ever meet. Thank you so much for hospitality, we really appreciated it! Much love to the entire staff, a fantastic place to stay, and a very comfortable bed.

Save your money. This location is old and needs some update and renovations to command the over $200 suggested nightly rates. Room was clean and bed linens were comfortable, despite small room size. Equipped w fridge and AC unit in window. The staff was polite a d front desk person always greeted us.

we had a great experience at this hotel. my sisters and i had an emergency in south bass island and had to get off with nothing but the clothes on our back and my bag/purse that i had with me to go to the emergency room. i was panicked and frantic and asked the man phillip how late we could check in because we didn’t know how long it would take (we ended up being there on time) but he was so understanding and helpful. if you stay here i hope you talk to phillip, that’s the main man right there. the staff as a whole was lovely and phillip is the goat. the hospitality is amazing. :)
