Zoar Village is a historic community in east central Ohio, founded in 1817 by German religious dissenters. It was home to the Society of Separatists of Zoar, a communal society that operated until 1898. Today, the village offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved buildings and artifacts, many of which are original and date back to the early 1800s. The village is considered an island of old-world charm, providing a unique experience for history enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy daily tours from April through October, starting at the Zoar Store, where tickets are purchased. The guided tours explore the history of the land and the community’s goals, making visitors feel like they are stepping back in time. The village features several thoughtfully preserved buildings, including a bakery with baked goods and a blacksmith shop with live demonstrations, adding to the immersive experience. The community garden at the center of the village is beautifully manicured, with flower beds that attract butterflies. Many visitors appreciate the authenticity of the village, as much of the antique furniture and artifacts belong to the original community. Walking around the village allows for a closer look at the homes and private residences that still stand today. Overall, Zoar Village offers a fascinating and educational experience, showcasing Ohio’s rich history and the enduring legacy of its early settlers.
History close to home! Always interesting to hear how life was a hundred years ago. Makes you appreciate life today that much more. We did the guided walking tour. It took just under 2 hours. Our guide shared his wealth of knowledge about Zoar history. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Beautiful little town with some very old architecture. Worth the visit if in the area. Things are open Wednesday thru Saturday
