About Choctaw Nation Museum
The Choctaw Nation Museum is housed in the historic 1884 Choctaw Capitol Building. The grounds are home to a veterans memorial, a replica Choctaw village, sports fields, public artwork, and the Annual Choctaw Labor Day Festival. This festival is described as the best event around, with free rides, concerts, pow wow dances, and free parking, offering a safe and fun atmosphere for the whole family. The Independence Day fireworks are also noted as exceptional. The grounds are immaculate and provide a sense of peace and serenity even during large gatherings. For many visitors, it is an honor to discover Choctaw ancestry and walk through the historic halls, making it a deeply meaningful and humbling trip. The drive to the location can be quite long but is considered worthwhile. Volunteers are exceptional, and the craft building is a highlight. The museum and its festival provide a great place to meet up with friends and family, supporting the Native community.
