“I fell in love with Farrow and Ball paints after seeing a friend's dining room colour drenched in a gorgeous deep green that she informed me was actually blue! Upon visiting the showroom and picking up samples I totally redid my apartment and then vacation home. The joy of painting and decorating has become a really rewarding hobby for me through the world of Farrow and Ball. The spaces I painted look both more traditional and modern at once. Many of the colours sit between various tones and will change with the light making it very satisfying just to be in one's space through the day and the seasons. Farrow and Ball suggests a particular white pairing for each colour and I've been rewarded well by following their guidance. They have cute little sample pots which makes the process of choosing colours very fun and practical. You can really play with trial and error. I've also tried their beautiful wallpapers which are printed with their paint. It is expensive but a huge leap up in terms of visual elegance. I've learned a lot about design reading a few books from Farrow and Ball too. This has changed the way I approach painting spaces (colour drenching, not defaulting to plain white cielings and trim, using both more rich darks and also complex neutrals, using in-between shades). Sure sometimes the staff gawked when I asked beginner questions but then they would explain things to me and I really understood the thinking behind design much clearer at the end of the day. To be fair they are very experienced consultants who are usually hired to give advice so keeping that in mind I felt they were patient and generous with me when they had time. If you're not experienced with matte paints use the eggshell/glossier paints as they are more like the paints most people are used to using in terms of durability etc. But the matte finish is incredibly rewarding visually for low traffic areas. Be prepared to do multiple coats as the whole point of these paints is their pigment richness. Give it a shot, even if you just start with one wall.. you won't regret it.”
