Had to visit to find out how it operates. They have machines like in Michigan, not redeeming by weight such as in California.
Barcodes facing upwards helps save a second or two per container
The machine gives a ticket that you then take to another machine that gives you cash.
Up to 50 squashed aluminum cans can be taken to the customer service counter for manual handling.
Best way to squashed a can is to have the barcode facing down and then just push in the middle once. It leaves the barcode intact and you can straighten the can enough to be read by the machine if need be but it makes more space in your bag

So do I let all the bottle drop account holders know. That when you take your green bags and and turn them in the employees will rip open your bag and dump half of them on the ground because it is in their policy that if any of the bottles hit the ground in their building that they get to keep them so bottle drop is technically stealing money from their customers

Cash machine is down and you cannot cash your tickets at another location. They will initial your tickets but when I called their customer service they could not say how long I have to r deem the tickets. I live 2 1/2 hours away and was not going to bring my bottles back home or drive out of my way to go to another bottle drop. And you can’t call a local center to see if they would cash the tickets.

Terrible! I have lived all over the U.S. and Oregon has to be the worst recycling program I have experienced. This is the most inconvenient way to recycle. Even the green bag program is extremely limiting and inconvenient. It really makes me not want to deal with recycling at all.

We really are in need of a second location. The last 3 times the lines to get inside or the lines for customer service are 10+ people. The lines to drop off the green bags are always 2+. The green bags are convenient only if there is room in the drop box for them. You have a great idea, now you just need upkeep and a second location. :)
The location has slightly improved

Drop off door is always full for days on end (can’t drop off cans at all) and staff is rude.

The Oregon bottle drop law is a scam. Rather than let everyone recycle cans in the recycling bin at home, we are forced to drive to the worst part of town to get back the money that the state is holding ransom. This place needs to be shut down, it’s a complete waste of everyone’s time and money since the recycling truck already drives up to everyone’s home

When we were broke down in bend Oregon from 2016 to 2018, I was here every morning after a night of collecting bottles and cans, a long with 1000s of homeless and lower middle class. I'd make 100 a night and so did 1000s of others every night. And we couldn't get them all. ?

I forgot my scan card and the lady told me that I was not welcome to drop my bottles at the door. She would not open the door for me and told me to hand feed the bottles into the machine although I have an account with them. ?

The BottleDrop itself serves its purpose. The City of Bend needs to make it a safe place for the residents of Bend by removing the house less individuals and activities that accompany them.
