Came here to buy new boots with my partner. Had a great experience in the hiking section, headed to the register. The one star review starts from here. Approach the register, exchange hellos and how are yous with the employee, everything's okay so far. Employee asks for my partner's membership. She informs her that we're not a member. Employee attempts to give the membership advertisement, my partner politely declines, stating we're moving and not interested. Employee continues to press, my partner, once again, politely declines. Employee CONTINUES to press, getting louder and louder and talking over my partner. The line at the register is very long and crowded. My partner does not do well in crowds and this starts to trigger a panic attack. At this point, I step in, and inform the employee that we're not interested and can you please stop. This woman then has the gall to inform me that "I work retail, I'm doing my job." To which I inform her that I also work retail, and the job is to make the customer happy, not to make them uncomfortable. She huffs, and says "Well, we're not in a hurry here." Yes, as a matter of fact, we are, you're delaying this and making my partner seriously uncomfortable. I tell her to just process the transaction. She then stares at me, goes "Well at least we're done here", and finally processes my partner's transaction. If I remembered this woman's name I would have listed it in this review. Terrible experience, horrible, rude employee who deserves to be fired.

I got help from Olivia here the other day and I was wearing a pair of salomon's i got from my MIL and I was wearing them wrong walking around like a fool! My laces were just kinda out and about about but she showed me how to lace them properly! They look 10x better now and I wouldve never known. Thank you!

Olivia was amazing and super well informed in helping me find the perfect Christmas gift for my boyfriend while staying in my budget! Great employee and atmosphere! Will definitely be coming back!

Went to pick up a roof box that was too large to fit in my car. An employee at the bike shop helped me install so I could make it home. 10/10 service.

I’ve had good experiences in the past here but my recent visit was poor. Came in to have my bike tire set up tubeless because it was supposed to a free service offered to members and I don’t have a good enough pump at home to do it myself. I was then told that REI has revoked that benefit to members and instead will be $16 for members, even though I brought my own sealant and the wheel was already tubeless ready. Both employees I interacted with claimed it was supposed to be $20 and not $16 even though their service cost sign behind the desk labeled tubeless service as $16 for members, also REI advertises 20% off bike services for members. I had to clarify the mistake before checking out. When I mentioned I was also going to be replacing my own freehub the employee made a poorly delivered comment about how if I wasn’t doing my own tubeless setup then I probably shouldn’t do my own freehub service and instead bring it to a professional. Doesn’t seem to be the best way to handle a customer interaction especially after I made it clear that I brought my tire in because it was supposed to be a free service to customers, but I payed anyway because I was already there and wouldn’t have time later to do it. On top of this, they scrapped my old tire without me asking! I was fully expecting to receive back my tire, I never mentioned not wanting it. Last time I had tubeless service done at REI (for free), I was given my old tire back. Why would an employee assume a customer wouldn’t want their property back, and not ask before disposing of it? It’s almost like buying a new hat and at the checkout the cashier takes the old hat you’re wearing and throws it away. Except in this case it’s a bike tire and the added bonus of my appreciation of REI

Not a fan of this REI. My partner and I brought a bike wheel there to get it set up as tubeless. They tried to overcharge us for the non member amount (even though we are both members). Then they also didn’t give us our old tire back! So now we paid $16 (when the service used to be free) and we lost a tire that could have been used on another one of our bikes. Really bad experience with the bike shop there. We should have been given the service for free- especially since they lost our previous tire that we wanted back. This REI no longer has my business. I already had a sour taste for REI since they made the only local gear store in Salem run out of business. But this experience made it even worse.

Stopped here to get fitted for backpacks, Tom was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I was amazed how much better the pack fit after his assistance with sizing and fitting it. We plan to come back for another backpack soon!

I stopped by this REI location for some camping essentials and the staff were helpful + friendly. I also needed to return something I got at another REI location and it was simple to do. I have been here in the past and the store is well kept with a good selection. Overall: great experience each time I have stopped by!

My first time in REI. Ever! On a scale of 1 to 10 my experience has been a 10+. Jacob in the hiking boots department was very knowledgeable, professional, extremely helpful and patient! And Richard at the checkout counter was professional, personable and Very helpful with additional information regarding REI and various perks and benefits that went along with a membership that essentially costs nothing when all is said and done.(I very rarely sign up for these things unless there is a tremendous benefit to me).Amazing store and wonderful experience! Can't wait to come back !HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Took my bike in to fix the chain, they ended up adding on a bunch of crap to make the sime chain fix cost 93 dollars. In the process they also contaminated both front and back brakes with oil. The bike wouldn't even ride after coming out of the shop. had to replace the back cassette on the bike before it would even work. would not recommend for any bike services, too many problems after taking my bike in. I also went in a few day later to buy new brake pads, employees we're not helpful and wanted me to bring the bike back in for them to "fix" it.

My wife and I always have a good time walking through and looking at the new things stocked. And you can't leave without looking in the garage sale area for the best deals!!

I love REI. This store is nice, smallish but they have a lot of stuff crammed in. Go now!! It's the annual sale with lots of good stuff. I got so many shoes in my hard to find size. So happy!!!

Every REI location I've been to has been good except this one. The regular employees are great but there is something up with the managers. I was sold a damaged bike and when I brought it back to show them the employee said they'd exchange it but the manager stopped them and accused me of taking the bike apart and putting it together again incorrectly. Who would do that? A month later I bought a hitch bike rack and got a coupon in the mail for $160 off the next week. When I brought it in the manager got involved and said they wouldn't price adjust anything. When I declared my intent to return the partially used one and buy it again online for the $160 back they got mad and said they'd do it as an exception only, even though REI's website states they will price adjust. It's not REI, this location is just poorly managed.
