I booked a car through Expedia and chose the cheapest option to roadtrip through Oregon. When we arrived at the airport, there were a couple of people in line ahead of us, but the wait wasn’t bad. When confirming our call, the employee said we likely wouldn’t the able to get through all of Oregon in a small car without AWD. At first we were skeptical thinking she was trying to upsell us, but BOY did she save our trip! We ended up upgrading from a Chevy Cruz to a Ford Explorer. There were SEVERAL times we said “thank you Thrifty lady!!” while driving because we never would have made it in a car. Cheers to her for saving our trip! The car was in great condition, we had no issues whatsoever returning the car and got a receipt quickly.

Worst experience ever. The manager’s special was an EV Chevy Bolt, which was described as a small SUV (it’s not). The car indicated it had a range of over 150 miles which would have been more than enough for my 90 mile round trip (It wasn’t). It needed to be charged after about 70 miles. Two of the charging stations I found were not working. Four others were occupied. By that time I did not have enough range to find another station so I waited over an hour for one to free up. By the time it was free, the car had died despite not having been driven! It could not even move ten feet to reach the charging station. Had to call roadside assistance to get towed! That took several hours. And I am being charged for the tow! Absolute garbage vehicle! Absolute garbage experience. Absolute garbage company.

I do not recommend Thrifty at all. First time using them and will be the last time. I was expecting to pick up the car swiftly and get on the road after two long flights from the east coast. What I got was all these attempts to add on fees to the original reservation. Their pre-check in where you provide information to save time at the counter does not even work. The person at the counter claimed to have my name and reservation but not my phone number?? haha yeah right. The line was long and we did not like the service we were provided. The car itself was fine but it had a bunch of body damage to it despite being a 2023 car. We took multiple photos before we even got in the vehicle. I do not trust these people at all. Somehow I was able to make the reservation with a debit card and put my boyfriend's name as a driver but at the airport they wanted him to be a major credit card holder. We don't like surprises.. just make it evident that a major cc is required in the driver's name. The work around that was an added fee to have both of us as drivers. Totally retarded.

Literally the dirtiest, unroad worthy vehicle I've ever hired - Never again! They gave me the option to go wash it myself for $50!!!!!The responses from the owner are literally comical.Generic reply. The realistic response is.... "Sucks for you buddy, got our money, despite complaints all pretty similar we don't care, we'll keep shafting customers like you".To update the review.... Despite Thrift store rental assuring me the acc was paid & closed (1 of the many excuses they couldn't credit me back money for the diabolical service was due to closed account). They are now chasing me for additional money!!! This lot are total cowboys, watch for the horse manure on the floor if you have the bad luck using these clowns.Oh, the amount they're chasing (and sending to collections) is just over $2!!! Two dollars, yes, that's right!

Worst car rental experience I've had in decades of traveling. The line was 20 people deep and there was one person working. Other customers that finally got to the front informed us in their own frustration that Thrifty had no cars left even though they had confirmed reservations, as we did. We didn't have that long to waste so we went over to dollar rental and they were able to give us a minivan--for an extra $500 over the price we had confirmed 5 months previously with Thrifty. It was frustrating but we were grateful just to have something to drive our group of six at that point. Later I discovered Thrifty and dollar are both owned by Hertz Corporation, so I tried to complain to the mothership and get a $500 refund but they simply ignored my letter. So if I could give zero stars to Thrifty, I would, since they had zero cars. In other words, even if you have a reservation don't trust that they'll get you a car. Take your rental elsewhere, ideally beyond all of the Hertz Corporation brands.

Tatiana at the PDX airport location went above and beyond for me today when I was in a big pinch and needed a car for work tomorrow, after being t- boned recently by a drunk driver. She was supposed to be off of her shift long before she helped me, but she still went out of her way to make sure that I got a good deal and a great car. I would definitely rent from Thrifty again if I had her as an agent!

My family wanted to take a trip over the Halloween weekend (2 adults and one child out to a pumpkin patch). We live in an area with a lot of really reliable public transit so we got rid of our car a few years ago. I'm the only person with a driver's license in the house, my husband has a medical condition and we play it safe.We booked with Thrifty about a week in advance. I've used them before to go to the beach with a friend and it was seamless, so why not? A few hidden fees are to be expected imo, so we were prepped for that.Less than 24 hours before our trip our booking is canceled. I call local customer service. No answer. I call their main line, they tell me it's because the credit card on file doesn't match the main driver's name. I explain that we used my husband's card but I'm the driver, he'll be there on the trip. They say nope, trip canceled. As soon as they realized we're a same-sex couple the rep shuts down. Said if my husband can't drive they won't help us. No refunds because the trip was canceled with less than 24 hours notice.THEY CANCELED THE TRIP!Now, we have no trip this weekend, our Halloween plans are a bust because good luck finding a reasonable rate the day before, and I'll NEVER use Thrifty again.Edit: After being on hold for 30 minutes I hung up, called back, got a third rep who told me they still wouldn't help me. They "helped" me by reassuring me I wouldn't get an additional cancelation fees and clarified that part of the issue was that I booked through Expedia, who then used another third party, economybooking, to book the trip. Economybook's site doesn't have any mention of the credit card name needing to match the driver's name, but Thrifty still wouldn't budge OR give me a refund. They said it's not their error, it's the third party's error, so even though THRIFTY has my money, they won't refund it. I have to fight the charge through my bank now.Book with ANYONE else!

Unfortunately, this company does not value its customers whatsoever. We got to the counter earlier than our scheduled reservation, only to be told that cars wouldn’t be available for 4-5 hours. We had to be somewhere that was a two hour drive away, and couldn’t wait anywhere near that long to get a car. Thrifty had allowed many people to extend their rentals, leaving us (and many other people there) stranded. The two representatives at the counter were extremely rude and did not care that everyone in line was upset and asking for advice. We had to pivot and find another car, which we did through Turo, and I asked Thrifty for a refund. They told me that they would under no circumstances give me a refund. I’d already paid over $300. Their reasoning was that we’d selected a rental that does not give refunds “under and circumstances.” Apparently, they use this wording to rob their customers. If you’re looking at renting through Thrifty, please reconsider. My family and I have been loyal Thrifty/Orbitz customers for years, so to be treated like trash is beyond disappointing.

Reserved a car at PDX Airport. When we arrived we were told there were no cars available and we would have to wait 4-5 hours. No apology. And to top it off, we were not issued a refund because we paid for a non-refund price. Had no idea that if I could not get a car within reason of my reservation, that I would still have to pay. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do not rent from this company!

We reserved and prepaid for our car. We waited in line for approx 1.5 hrs and were then told we needed to wait another 30-45 minutes for our car to arrive. Since we had prepaid, there was no option for a refund. Thrifty had severely overbooked, and from what we later learned from neighboring car rental agencies and from reviews on their site, they had been doing this all summer. The car I reserved was a "Mazda 3 or similar" and showed an image of a 2022 model Mazda. The car we received was a 5 year old Honda Civic base model. I was prepared for a different make/model, but not the age difference, and from what I'd witnessed at the rental counter we felt luck to even get a car. NOT a good experience. The lack of technology in the vehicle was unsafe, with no way to safely view navigation even from a cell phone. The windows were filthy inside - also unsafe. At one point the trunk release button stopped working and the entire instrument panel went blank while driving - no speedometer, fuel gauge, nothing - and we were 2 hrs outside of town. It corrected after restarting but we were afraid to turn off the car until we researched the issue. We noted this issue to the attendant when we turned in the car. After a long day of travel, picking up this car was an exhausting and disappointing experience.

BEWARE!!!! SCAM! I rented from Portland Thifty car rental. It was a freaking nightmare ? over an hour and a half in line. Then it took forever a the gate. BEWARE! Here's the scam. The guy at the gate apologies for the wait and tells you the gas is comped. He punches something in the computer and sends you off. If you ask the person who checks the car back on when you return, he says yep, it's comped. If you check your card bill later. You'll discover you've been charged about $12 a gallon. You get the royal run around if you call customer service.

We had a reservation for 7:15 on 9/11. We did not receive our rental till after 9:00. We were told we did not need to return the car with a full tank of gas to make up for us having to wait 2 hours. We just received our receipt and we were charged $62.97 for fuel. I tried calling them to inquire and there is no way to get ahold of an actual person. We were also charged twice for vehicle protection, once through expedia and also through Thrifty. This was a truly bad experience and we will never be using Thrifty again.

They are not thrifty, they are thieves.Thrifty charged me over and did not provide me the receipt at the time. They emailed me the receipt 2 hours later and then I figured out they overcharged me by giving me insurance without disclosing it at the time.

Really terrible. Waited an hour only to be told the car I reserved and already paid for was unavailable and that they actually had no more cars. I was told to come back in the morning to pick up a car. Took a Lyft back to the airport in the morning, waited in line for another hour. Was given a car 6 passenger vehicle when I reserved and paid for a compact car. Went back to the counter to switch cars and waited another 30 minutes to talk to someone. If I didn’t already pay for it I would have cancelled.
