Based on the reviews, Cape Lookout State Park is a great place to stay for the weekend. The campsites are clean and large enough, although you are right next to your neighbor with little separation. The bathrooms and showers are clean and plentiful, and the water is warm. It is a 5-minute walk to the beach from the campsite, and the day use area has some nice picnic tables. The campground is great overall, right next to the beach. The weather was great for that time of the year, and the campground was clean. The staff were kind and helpful. The Rangers at this state campground are amazing. The park is clean and well maintained, with free hot showers. Campsites are very close to the beach with easy walking access. Facilities are clean and well kept. The hiking trails go through the camp, so hiking is an easy option too. The only downside is that the campsites are fairly small. If it is raining, do not tent camp at site D48, as it was a swamp. During peak summer months, the park can feel busy, and neighboring camp noise can be noticeable. The standout feature is the hiking, with the Cape Lookout Trail opening up to dramatic views. The beach is wide, windswept, and ideal for long walks.
I always have a great time at the beach...the views are always awesome... today we had the place to ourselves...

D48 - If it's raining, do not tent camp at site D48. It was a swamp. Woke up and the entire spot was flooded.
The campground is great overall. Right next to the beach. I'll come back for sure.

Went in mid February and the weather was great for that time of the year. Was pleasantly surprised to find sand dollars intact. The campground was clean and the staff were kind and helpful.
