I visited the Michaels store located at The Waterfront in Munhall,PA. My purpose was simple: drop off a package at the UPS drop-off spot. However, what should have been a straightforward task turned into a comedy of errors.
Upon approaching the counter, I handed my package to the lady behind it. She glanced at the labels—a UPS barcode and a USPS barcode—and promptly declared, "NO! We can’t take that, it goes to the post office it says USPS." I explained how UPS handles the shipping and the final drop off is made by USPS. (Has she never had anything delivered that way? ?)
I pointed out the obvious: the UPS barcode was right there, clear as day, above the USPS one. But she remained adamant, insisting that it wouldn't work. I felt like I was in a parallel universe where logic had taken a vacation.
She grumbled “Hold on.” and walked away to the office. A Michaels superhero arrived—a fellow employee who clearly understood the concept of barcodes. With a flourish, they scanned the UPS barcode, and lo and behold, it worked! The package was accepted.
Did I receive an apology for the mix-up? Nope. Not even a half-hearted "Oops, my bad." Instead, I got a blank stare, as if I'd just performed a magic trick involving barcodes.
So here's my suggestion: perhaps Michaels could offer a crash course in barcode recognition for its staff. It could be a team-building exercise—Barcode Bingo, anyone? And as a bonus, they could throw in a lesson on basic customer service etiquette. You know, the part where you acknowledge mistakes and say, "I'm sorry."
In conclusion, I appreciate the entertainment value of my Michaels adventure. It's not every day that one gets to witness a barcode standoff. But next time, I'd prefer a smoother transaction and maybe a chuckle or two.

You can't drop off a package without a UPS label...which they don't have here. You have to go to an actual UPS store 20mins away to get one. This site also doesn't accept Amazon returns despite UPS being an option for returns on Amazon. Waste of time.
