“I reached out to Malgo to alter my wedding dress and heard back from her quickly- already off to a great start!! Initially, I just wanted to take the dress in, do some simple alterations and add a bustle which she was more than happy to do. “I ordered a jeogori from an online shop, first big mistake. It took a month to get here, but what I ordered wasn’t what I received. This put me in a huge bind, leaving me only 2 weeks to find a hanbok. Why did it have to be a hanbok? Because it is for the BTS concert in Baltimore on Aug. 10. To say I was panicking is an understatement. I searched for hanbok stores and came across BDK mint. I read the google reviews and saw one where a woman said she needed a hanbok in a WEEK and BDK mint was able to accommodate the deadline. I wasn’t sure if my order could be fulfilled in 2 weeks time so I called and spoke with Jeoungssi. When I told her what I needed she confidently said she would be able to help me.

I went into the shop the next day on 7/26, Jeoungssi greeted me warmly and got straight to business by showing me the material options. I showed her reference pictures and she helped walk me through the process. While she had quite a bit of beautiful material in the store she told me she would need to go to the fabric store to order me the exact fabric that she felt would work best with my hanbok. After that she took my measurements and told me that she will probably be able to finish before the deadline, which was the 9th.

I put my faith and trust in her and explained that she is the professional, so I will trust her judgement on how she put everything together, and that I would be ok if she wasn’t able to finish in time since it is a last minute order. On Aug 1st Jeoungssi called me to ask if I could come in for a fitting. I went into and to my surprise the chima was already completed. It fit like a charm and looked more beautiful than I had imagined. She needed to finalize the jeogori so she put it on me to pin it to my exact measurements. Once she finished pinning the jeogori she told me it should only take a few days for her to complete it.

She messaged me this morning 8/5 that hanbok was ready to be picked up. I practically ran to the store. When I got there
Jeoungssi and her daughter sweetly greeted me and then Jeoungssi excitedly went to the back to bring out my hanbok. As she came back out she said, “I thought of something”. As she held up my chima I saw she had a knotted belt around the waist. It wasn’t part of the original design, but she thought it was a beautiful addition and would permanently attach it if I liked it. I loved the idea and was so excited that she included such a beautiful detail at no additional charge. While waiting for her to alter the chima I chatted with Jessica and connected over our experience of growing up Korean American. After Jeoungssi permanently attached the belt, she brought the whole hanbok out. As soon as I tried it on I burst into tears.

I never had my own hanbok. I use to wear my mom’s when I was a little girl, but this was MY hanbok. MY beautiful hanbok that Jeoungssi was able to create in less than 2 weeks. I was feeling all the emotions in that moment. It wasn’t just clothing, it became part of my history and identity. I thought I just wanted to have a hanbok to wear for a concert by 7 Korean men, but it became so much more to me in that moment. There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude for Jeoungssi. You are so incredibly talented and I’m forever grateful for your kindness, professionalism, attentiveness to detail(the hidden seams are perfection), and quickness. The last thing I want to mention is that pricing was more than reasonable, especially for a rush order. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart.”

She added sleeves to my Stella York dress and they turned out beyond perfect! She also added fabric to keep the dress from slipping down my shoulders which helped greatly!
