I've been a regular shopper at this store for a few years. The employees are great and the store is good overall, but there is one big problem. No baskets. I don't mean not enough. They just don't have them at all. It's a small store with narrow aisles and gets very crowded at times. All they provide are full sized shopping carts, and it creates unneccesary traffic jams all over the store. It is a constant battle to navigate this store. The simple solution would be to provide baskets for shoppers with small amounts of items, like every other supermarket. Please just get some baskets and this store would be greatly improved.

I had a super experience this morning at the Roxborough Acme. Sunday morning, Eagles jerseys everywhere, great music, helpful upbeat crew. Very welcoming. Thank you!

Often crowded with long lines (especially in the beer section). Also, there are no baskets for customers to use.Updating from 2 stars to 3 stars because they added more self check-outs, which has dramatically reduced wait times. Still no baskets lol.

GREAT LOCAL GROCERY STORE!The prices are can be pretty high for food. Produce is expensive, cereal, eggs, milk, spices, most of the items can be $.050-$1 higher than other markets. The store itself is small, sometimes feels like they have limited inventory, and can get pretty crowded during high times. The upsides are that the market is very well kept, the managers and employees are very warm and welcoming, and there’s almost always sales in the meat department. The wine and beer department always has a very sweet woman working there, and the bakery and deli departments are also decent, kind, and helpful folks. Moreover, they’ve expanded inventory on different departments like the Asian and Kosher goods. I’m really happy to see the store diversifying their inventory even when sometimes I might feel like there’s limited goods.I’m happy this is my local Acme with very sweet and seemingly decent folks working there.

My son picked up snow crabs for mother's day. He said the guy behind the fish counter was inattentive. He got 4 lbs. One of the clusters was turned black. We were very disappointed that they wouldn't even sell that.

I posted my original review in frustration; it was short and mean:"I love Roxborough, but there are no good grocery stores here. Acme is an embarrassment. Management knows / cares nothing about food. I leave here hungry and frustrated every time."A manager named Dawn commented on Yelp asking for clarification, so here goes.My biggest frustration is with the butcher section, where the quality of the meat is almost uniformly terrible. They carry "select" and only occasional "choice" grades, most of which is completely devoid of any marbling. All of it looks wet-aged in cryo-vac, which gives pallid flavor (but is standard for all but the best supermarkets). The quality grades are pretty broad; meat at the top end of choice can actually be pretty good. But I never see that. I rarely see anything with discernible marbling. The lamb all seems to be from New Zealand or Australia, which is cheaper but raises sustainability questions that I don't have time to get into. I once asked an Acme butcher about Pennsylvania lamb, and he told me they don't raise lamb here. Well ... some of the best lamb farms in the country are in Pennsylvania. Many of the best chefs in New York and the Bay Area specifically source lamb from here. I'd expect a professional butcher to at least know what's in his own back yard, but like many supermarkets, Acme does not seem to employ real butchers. The poultry is the saddest section. It's mostly Purdue, which I will not buy unless I'm starving to death. Purdue is basically the poster child of everything wrong in the worst corners of the agriculture industry. The worst chicken breeds, bred purely for fast yield and cheap feeding; the worst feed; the worst, most inhumane conditions for the birds; the worst, most inhumane conditions for the workers. It's a disgusting product. I understand Acme is just a supermarket, and probably doesn't currently have customers for heritage breed birds, but there are compromises. Brands like Murray's and D'artagnan offer similar breeds but feed them and raise them better. They taste much better, and you can sleep at night knowing you didn't support a poultry concentration camp. A step up would be a brand like Bo Bo (which has farms in PA), that raises a more flavorful breed for just a couple $ more per lb. The fish is a horror show, but no supermarket anywhere has fresh fish. Credit where credit is due: everyone I've talked to on the staff is friendly. The beer selection is pretty epic.

A little dirtier than I'd like but the night manager is awesome..Edit: it's been a few months since I shopped there, I went in there yesterday and it looked much better. Nice new floor, attractive displays, decent prices ( depends on what your looking for, some things are better priced elsewhere). But all in all there has been some progress in the right direction! Keep it up!!

LOVE the employees who work there. Always very helpful. The manager, Steve, takes pride in his store and it shows.
