Everything you've ever wanted from a local used bookstore: cats, wide selection, reasonably priced, and the unmistakable perfume of thousands of pages. Behind the register is an older gentleman that is exactly what you pictured of a used bookstore owner. This place ticks all the boxes.1. At least 2 cats, a chubby ginger (rubbed on legs) and a mostly white calico (shy). The beloved long hair ginger must have passed but his picture is near the register.2. Huge selection; social and environmental topics, psychology, massive history and fiction selections, poetry, philosophy, books written in different languages... A place to lose sense of time and wonder if your parking was for 1, 2 or 4 hours. Carefully weighing the PPA fine vs just hunkering down and keep browsing the store...3. Two stories and deceptively larger than you'd think from the outside. Books are approx 25-50% off retail. My books ( pics posted) ranged $7.50-8.50 & the massive 1200 page ish book was $12.50.Is it the rock bottom, cheapest store? Nope. But I am happy to pay very reasonable prices for a huge selection to a local store that has cats. And they will take back and resell/give store credit if they can resell the book. As a rabid reader that has no shelf control (ba dum dum) this is amazing.4. The homey, bookish smell is great. It is very quiet and I strongly recommend you give this local gem an hour of your time. It is a treasure hunt that never disappoints.

Favorite used bookstore in Philly :) they have the best selection of books, and prices are great. Customer service is wonderful, and so are the cats.

Good selection of used books for the general reader. They have in stock fiction that many used shops would be out of. But not much that's truly rare here. Helpful owner and lovely cats.

I'm a fan of this place due to their location, lovely ambience, and professionalism of their furry greeter. I can't comment much on the book selections on their second floor, but I love the fantasy and fiction novels that were on the first floor. I'll visit this place and their kitties again for sure.

I'm a huge fan of used bookstores in general, but Bookhaven had more than i was expecting!! The prices are a little higher than some bookstores but their selection and quality makes me feel like it was worth it ??would recommend to any fellow book lovers!Legend has it, there are some kitties there too! :)

Hands-down the best bookstore in the city, and I've been to every one I've seen. The selection is unmatched. Huge fiction section and outstanding collections of poetry, philosophy, literary criticism, history, sociology, and foreign language works (especially French). The only place in the city where I could be looking for a copy of Pascal's Pensées, stop in, and find it in in the original French. A haven of culture in Philadelphia.

One of the best used bookstores in the city. It's a lot more massive than it looks; it's one of those classic cave-like bookshops with tons of great books to explore. Decent poetry and religion sections, which adds extra points for me!

The selection of books are excellent. The owners are wonderful and know what they are talking about. They love what they do and have been there for more than 30 years. I highly recommend going and supporting these small local businesses.
