I've been coming to Foreign Bazaar since the late 80's for silver earrings (that the employees kindly make into clip ons!), and dark Patchouli oil.I mix the oil with lotion and I swear, I've had people come up to me numerous times to compliment the scent.

The store lights were bright so you could get a clear view of what you are looking for. The store was clean and organized. The owner was knowledgeable about the products . This store has a wide variety of beads ranging from expensive to inexpensive depending on your needs. This shop is a must visit. The shop house other beautiful items other than beads. You can get a good variety of incense.

Zero stars. Super shady rip off. I do Japa every day; last year my Mala broke; it was a really big deal. My husband gave me the Mala 20 years and 10 months before; he bought it in India and gave it to me when we met; it had lived with me and had been used daily for Japa; it had traveled the world; it carried me for 20 years and10 months; I know a broken Mala is auspicious; I knew a cycle was ending; even with that knowledge it was a temporary heartache. My husband had been shopping at Foreign Bazaar since before we met; months after my Mala broke he asked Foreign Bazaar to restring a Rudraksha Mala using red silk and to put a knot between each bead; silk is stronger than cotton, and the knot provides a cleaner recitation; the Meru bead was to be a little larger than the others. It was a surprise gift for my birthday. They charged him $150 to restring the Mala. When I was presented the Mala for my birthday I noticed that the red silk near the Meru bead where the tassel is was pulling and looping; though I didn't want to be a buzz kill, it was faulty handiwork in the restringing, and over time it would have gotten worse and maybe unravelled the tassel. My husband brought it back to see if they could tidy it up; they charged him to fix their faulty work. When I was presented the "repaired" Mala I noticed there was glue on the red silk string on each side of the Meru bead; I didn't love the idea of having something synthetic on my Mala, but since it was a thoughtful gift, and since we had already had an issue, I let it slide. About 6 weeks ago the glue on one side of the Meru bead let go; this was not an "auspicious" breaking; this was glue letting go; what was revealed is that they never strung the Meru bead, they merely glued the red silk to the bead. The work my husband paid for, which was restringing, was not done; they charged him for restringing; what they gave him was glueing. That might be called Bait and Switch. Today we went to Foreign Bazaar to show them the Mala and to see what could be done. The owner was not there, but his smug and arrogant son was; he recognized my husband immediately, and then my husband went to the car to stave off a ticket. I showed my Mala to the son, and before I could say anything else, he said: "Ma'am, it was fine when we gave it to you." I pointed out the glue and showed him that the Meru bead had never been strung only glued, and he stared at me with a snotty smirk, and said: "Ma'am, that's not glue." At no point did he offer a Mea culpa or even a soft ineffective apology; at no point did he ask what he could do make it right; at no point did I ask him to do anything for free. He was rude and dismissive. He was busy talking with a young gal shopkeep or customer when we came in. His father should not let him man the store. He lost them a customer. Zero stars.
