Step into McGillin’s Olde Ale House and you’re stepping into a piece of Philadelphia history. This beloved tavern, the oldest continuously operating pub in the city, has been pouring pints and serving up hearty fare since 1860. It’s a place where the clink of glasses and the buzz of conversation blend into a symphony of conviviality. Here, friends gather to enjoy a wide selection of regional beers and classic American-Irish pub grub in an atmosphere that’s as warm and welcoming as the staff. Whether you’re there to catch a game, celebrate with a group, or simply soak in the old-world charm, McGillin’s promises an experience that’s both timeless and spirited. So, raise a glass at McGillin’s, where every visit is a toast to tradition and good times! ?

Great old school ta ern with 2 floors. Good prices for downtown and laid back. Hidden in an alley so bit harder to find but worth it

You'd never guess it from the name, but this place has a definite Irish Pub vibe. We stopped in for a pint and a cheesesteak and were not disappointed. Food was value priced and came in a plastic basket, but was quite delicious. Service was a little slow, but we enjoyed our visit.

Showed up at HH and it was packed, didn't help that there was a Phillies game on. Managed to snag a seat at the downstairs bar, probably should've just went upstairs. Ordered their house red ale and enjoyed it thoroughly. In classic me mode, I only had one beer while I read a chapter before I moved on to the next bar.

We were excited to visit this #1 Irish Pub according to Google result articles. We knew they didn't serve Guiness so we were interested in trying their O'Hara Stout. Came in on a Monday evening. Staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere didn't remind us of an Irish pub (compared to other Irish pubs in the US, Irish pubs in different cities in Ireland, Europe, etc.). It felt more like it used to be a pub then started transforming into a sports bar.Tried the Philly eggrolls, Mile High Meatloaf, French Onion Soup and wings. Biggest complaint: why was all the food room temperature (besides the soup)?? The egg rolls, fries and Meat loaf came out quickly so its not like they were sitting around. Very strange. The wings were stale and falling apart. We had 6 pints of beer each and that didn't make the food taste any better.O'Hara stout is fine. Initial taste has a more "coffee taste" but the aftertaste is nice and creamy. Still prefer Guiness, to each their own.

No doubt one of the best bars in Philly. Always sit at the bar if you can. Food options are super affordable. House roasted turkey Reuben is highly recommended. House ales from Troegs. Attentive bar staff. Come early to hang with locals before it gets super noisy and crowded and packed with 20-somethings. Best place outside of Citizens Bank Park to catch a game.

Loved our visit to McGillin's. Not many veggie options, so I just got fries and an ale, which were both great. My husband really enjoyed his chicken marsala sandwich. Everyone there was super friendly, service was fast, and the atmosphere is perfect.

A true Philadelphia staple. If you’re a fan of ale houses, then McGillin’s is the way to go. Surprisingly for a bar, their food is actually slightly under salted.

Can't believe I've lived in Philly most of my life and never been here. From the start the security guys out front were nice as can be and so welcoming. The place was packed but we got a table quickly. Our waitress was awesome (sorry, I don't remember her name) and had great recommendations. I had the fish and chips and it was amazing. I've had fish and chips in London that were not this good. Fish was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. My wife doesn't even like fish and she ate half of my order. My son had the wings and the were equally as good. So in the end, great staff, great food and great atmosphere. Will be our new go to!
